Pop build all his game plan on making JJ open, while covering other Knicks players.
Same goes for kipping Al and Larry stuck on the perimeter and make bad shots.
Spurs as usual executed the plan to perfection.
BBal is a simple game when played by smart people.
This is a good point. How horrid did Indiana execute their D on us compared to the Spurs? We were down 15 points in the 4th Q to Atlanta[and I think we have won 4 games this year of our 14 from double digit 4th Q deficits] and unless Mike D put in Nate--that game was done.
I agree with this concept. I would use ball pressure in the backcourt to run clock as the Knicks are much more deliberate. In the halfcourt--tow things---everyone up on their man except Jefferies and I send his man to double the ball and then continue to switch--with 12-14 secs on the shot clock--I don't mind putting pressure on Knicks to throw ball to wide open Jefferies because he cant make the shots anyway. Key to defending Knicks
Ball pressure--pick up full court to run clock
Stay up on your man with physical man to man[guys like Lee Gallo and Chandler--when given time and space will hurt you and Duhon can hit the open 3--you want Duhon to take it to the rim under presure where he has trouble finishing
Lay off Jefferies and use the extra defender to double team the ball and then switch if the ball moves--
Hands up box out.
Knicks did play great against Indiana---they wernt going to beat us anyway but you can see the difference in good coach with scheme and bad coach with poor plan.
