Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has acquired guard Eric Maynor from the Utah Jazz in exchange for the draft rights to Peter Fehse. To consummate the transaction the Thunder also assumes the contract of forward Matt Harpring. Harpring will not report to Oklahoma City. “We are pleased to add Eric Maynor to our organization,” said Presti. “Eric possesses a work ethic and team first mentality that we feel will help us in our continued growth.”

My boy Maynor! Glad to see him out of Utah, he was never going to get burn there with Deron already enthroned.

I still think he's going to be very good in this league and have thought so since I saw him as a sophomore at VCU.

every year, there's a darling new team with a gm making crazy awesome moves...

but very few of them continue a path of big time winning. presti has made smart moves and was the beneficiary of pure luck in not having to take oden...but let's sit back and see where okc is in 2-3 years.

I think insurance pays the salary of retired players. The salary still counts toward the cap though so Utah would still have to pay so OKC basically stole Maynor.

Imagine we traded Mobley and Douglas for nothing.

This guy is a genius. He will be around for a long time to come.

Small moves: Kristic, Thabo, Maynor

Big Moves: Harden, Durant, Green, Westbrook

Granted he had assets in Lewis and Allen, but he made the decision to blow up the team and rebuild it. We have watched the Bulls and the Blazers look like they are on the cusp, but falter. I just don't see it here.

The Bulls and Blazers falter because they fall in love with their young talent. They should have used their young talent to get a guy to put them over the top. Instead they paid guys that are going to take them nowhere but a 1st to 2nd round exit.

it's very difficult for a gm to trade a guy he personally drafted. you feel a connection to the player. so i can understand them not making the moves. and the toughest thing to do is to trade a player who's at peak value. but ultimately, they had to b/c none of those players were special talents unless the mandate was to continue making money and selling season tickets.

He passed on Lopez for Westbrook. Think he'd have played it the same had he gotten the 1.

my understanding is that they will pay only $1.65M of Harpers salary. So it is a steal.

Yea I didnt word my response properly. OKC wont be paying all Harpers salary as you said so they just stole Maynor. Utah also saved 8 million in Lux tax which is not pennies.

Genius is a bit premature. Like you referenced, its one thing to get a team in position when you have top lottery picks years straight, but passing that threshold from team with talent and potential to a serious contender is a hard ass leap.

He should have drafted T Evens if he was a real genius and traded Westbrook for an impact player. Harden will be alright.
