Would anyone gamble on waiting until 2011 if LeBron doesn't sign ? These guys are available in 2011.
Kevin Durant / J.R. Smith / Zach Randolph / Chris Douglas-Roberts / Channing Frye / K-Mart.
Durant is the only one who would ask for a max contract. Zach is still a 20-10 guy and would be only 29 yrs old and would not ask for a max contract. ( he just got 32pts-24rebs ). JR is MLE guy and CDR is a little more.

C = HILL / rookie contract
PF = GALLO / rookie contract
SF = DURANT / 5yr 75mil
SG = JR / 5yr 35mil
PG = DOUGLAS / rookie contract

Bench - Landry - vet minimum / Frye - 5yr 25mil / Nate 5yr 25mil /

Well 2011 does have some really nice pieces, but you never know what's going to happen. Don't CP3 and Melo get free that year too? Of course we should go throw the max at Joe Johnson or Bosh or Amare if we don't like em that much. I doubt Durant will want to leave, he's in a perfect position there. JR Smith is too risky, Zach Randolph are you kidding me? Frye won't mesh with Gallo, two tall 3 point shooters who can't rebound well. K-Mart is a possibility. The possibility of signing CP3 and Melo though is better than signing a 2nd tier star to max money the year before, even if we won't win as many games in 2010.

If Durant is a FA, forget about him bc he will be restricted. Paul isnt a fa until 2012. The one guy thats worth going after in 2011 is `Melo. CDR is probably a rfa too if hes a fa at all that is. Smith would be ok to have. Its really not too much of a free agent class besides Melo. Everyone else that Summer will either be old, like Yao and Dirk, or they will be RFAs. Lets just focus on this season and Summer for now.

if we miss out on Lebron, it's Melo all the way... Durant will be a RFA in 2011, no way his team doesn't match... RJ, Zach, Redd, Pierce, Parker are the other big names in 2011.

you think the knicks will ask their fans to wait another year?

they are going to spend max money on someone this summer - that's a guarantee...

If they keep playing like they have been lately, I would gladly wait for a top-tier FA until 2011. But that won't be necessary as we will land Lebron this summer. But Melo is the next best, and he comes up in 2011.

That's ok, and they can do it again next year.

yup, someone will get signed, u can bank on it... if not Lebron, then Bosh, Amare or Joe Johnson... i have no doubt one of those guys are wearing Knicks' blue next season... even still if we don't sign 2 max guys this year we'll still have room in 2011 to go after Melo... i just hope they don't toss all their eggs into the basket unless we're getting Lebron, cuz if we don't i'd rather sign 1 max guy & wait for 2011 for more options... Bosh & Joe Johnson isn't a championship winning tandem if u ask me.

Is it better than Lee and Harrington though? I think so.

Look, if we don't cash in on 2010 we have to cut our losses and field a team regardless. I just hope, as I have said, we don't pull a Chicago and just give ANYONE the max willing to take it!

Now, they were in a different position, one of that no one wanted to try to fill MJ's shoes, so nobody wanted to go there...but...it's similar. We have money for a top FA, we might not get one, so then what? Give 2nd tier talent 1st tier money? Then what? Continue to stink but not enough to cash in on the 2011 draft?

Eh...tough spot there!

Cos, i've been agreeing w/u from the beginning on this... i don't think it's in our best interests to re-sign Lee & Al to longterm extensions... for what? so we can continue being a below average team in a weak Eastern Conference? sorry but my goals are a lot higher than that as urs are too... we need to think about putting together a team that can contend for titles here, not just go after whatever talent we can get our hands on & try to mix & match our way to a 1st round exit out of the playoffs every year.
