29th in the league--only reason why Charlotte stayed in the game last night. No rebounds--no rings.

We are having problems with rebounding because we play a lot of zone defense. It is harder to box out when you are in a zone.

Hard to rebound when 4 guys are standing around the perimeter.

Agree but there is potential. Our 4's dont rebound. Lee is the center and he's a glass cleaner but JJ/Harrington are below average 4's when it comes to rebounding. Gallo is 6'10 and is also poor, but I think he's got great upside there because he certainly doesnt fear the banging or that conact. He's just got to learn how to better position himself.

We need to upgrade the 4/5 bottom line. I still think our best shot is to sign Lebron and trade Curry + Chandler and cash for OK4. That gives you the rebounding shotblocker to man the post and gives you a dominating rebounding tandem with him and Lee upfront.

That is really the issue and why most teams don't play zone defense alot. Unless you have 2-3 Lee-type players on your squad, you are going to lose alot of rebounds playing zone.

He isn't a great rebounder but with the emergence of Wil, the continued good play from Gallo and the addition of Bender --- I'd like to see us take another look at the Harrington for T Thomas deal.

Thomas would give us D, rebounding and shot blocking that Al can't and hopefully the 3 mentioned above along with Thomas could make up for Al's scoring that we'd lose.

Poor rebounding is often the result of poor defense.

Defensive breakdowns force the defense to help - leave their man and leave open players free to attack the basket.

Another reason we are very low in rebounding #s wise is that D'Antoni would prefer we get back on defense rather than crash 2-3 guys to the offensive glass. We often have nobody on the offensive glass when we shoot a 3.

I think you could look into something like that--but also it's Jefferies who has commanded so much time. He has played well for a stretch but last night he had the worse +- and just doesnt rebound enough to warrant such lofty PT. He didnt score or rebound last night and while he has played very good D--the overall lack of production will catch up with playing him long minutes like it did last night. We have been able to stifle teams with the zone--we have held teams down---this has gone unnoticed and Jefferies has been a big help @ 6-11 but once teams take us more serious and scout it out--they will come up with schemes that will allow them to score more than they have been--at that point we will need some more scoring + rebounding out of JJs 30-35 position.

We need a shotblocking center. The reason we are playing a lot of zone is to protect No D Lee and Dudu. If we have a Camby type C then we can go back to playing man-to-man and our rebounding woes will be fixed.

I want to disagree. Our rebound differential actual started to improve when we started to play zone.

I remember looking at our differential early in the year when we had won like 2 games, and I'm pretty sure it was -9 or thereabouts.

We're up to -5, and I'm pretty sure that has happened when we have been playing more zone.

We get killed on the boards because we launch so many 3's with 5 guys sitting at the 3pt line, and Mike likes to play a midget line up and our guys get 1. pushed around & 2. jumped over for rebounds.

I think the reduction of the number of 3s and us shooting them at a higher percentage, has helped the rebounding differential, but zone defenses open you up to teams getting offense rebounds because your frontcourt is not matched up with a man. We saw that alot in the first Bobcats game a few days ago. In short, our rebounding problems stem from several factors.

That only explains offensive rebounding.

Defensive rebounding problems we have right now stems from our zone defense.

Curry
Hill
Milicic

None of them are the answer to our rebounding woes?

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Fixed. Hill and Darko might be able to help with rebounding but Eddy has always been a bad rebounder.

I think we're going to see Jeffries to continue to log some bigtime minutes because the only glimmer of hope we have of clearing more cap space runs through Jeffries since nobody in their right mind would trade for Curry...
