“He was very excited to come to New York and now that he’s out of the rotation he’s disappointed, but not angry,” Milicic’s agent, Marc Cornstein said. “He’s not looking to be traded. He’s a member of the team and he’s not going to do anything wrong. He’s going to continue to practice and we’ll see what happens. Like any player, he’d rather be playing.”

Then why doesnt he act like it?

Darko has not worked on his game. He is moody, lazy, aloof and thinks he is better than players who simply outworn him. If he were so ready to play he would have been noted for effort in training camp. Darko, strangely gets a pass for being an underachieving slug. I don't get it

Good Riddance

He doesn't get a pass. He is a victim. And he has a viable option after the season ends, he will dominate Europe. He is a leader, someone that needs the whole team to go through him. No one wanted to trust him with this. He's not a defensive player. He's a star.

i don't think he's getting a pass. i think he's being dismissed as a jerk-off and misfit who has earned his rep as one of the biggest busts in the history of the draft.

He's just not suited for this culture or game. Trust that he will absolutely dominate Europe next season, because that's what he is.

Darko says:
'"I don't give a bleep about the money," Milicic said. "I just want to enjoy the basketball. I'd like to have the ball in my hands and have an offense run through me. I'm not just a defensive player."'

yeah i'm sure that's the issue. petrovic, stojakovic, divac, kukoc etc. had SUCH hard times with the culture and game too.

Andrew/Martin,
I don't think it was ever necessary before, but there is now a clear need for a maximum monthly post quota.

has nothing to do with an entire nation, it's just darko himself, an individual. i'm not making the case that yugoslavs can't adapt lol.

but look at what he said:
"I don't give a bleep about the money," Milicic said. "I just want to enjoy the basketball. I'd like to have the ball in my hands and have an offense run through me. I'm not just a defensive player."

he sees himself as a star, and he can't be a star in the nba because he's not worthy for whatever reason. but he has a star-mind, so he will go where he can be a big fish.

and no need, panos, i start work on monday so i won't have time to waste all my time here lol

Fair And Balanced

"The Knicks were hopeful that 7-foot Milicic would be a shot blocking presence but he hasn’t been given much of a chance."

- Frank Isola

"...hasn’t been given much of a chance."?

"This random subjective writing makes my skin crawl. What evidence does the writer present to back up his claim of, "not been given a chance"? Did D'Antoni bench Darko in training camp?

Anyone who has attended a Knicks game and watched Darko during warmups might come away with another impression.

"Hasn't been given much of a chance?"

Are we talkin bout practice?

Their transitions were eased by night-time training sessions in the streets around w. 33rd.

He played really well when he did get time, and with all respect misterearl, you caught him 10 or 15 games into the season, by that time he was way out of it.

Chemistry Project

Basketball is an intimate team sport. You have just 12 guys who need to trust each other and always have each others back. They are together for eight months out of the year.

Not one New York beat writer will cite Darko's work habits, his approach to the game or ask the other players about his personality.

Why has no one ever mentioned the words, "locker room cancer"?

orangeblob - "played really well"?

With all due respect ojblob, last time i checked I didn't see any double-doubles lighting up the scorebook under Darko's name.

Are you suggesting that Mike D'Antoni plays arbitrary favorites?

Or was Darko simply unwilling to sacrifice his ego, or his sweat glands, to play within the system?

Because he's not a cancer. He doesn't go out of his way to project his atitude on others. He just is. And by all accounts he is on good terms with coach and doesn't create a problem. He gets along with everyone. That's why. He's a man resigned to his fate, he's not trying to ruin anyone else's life. That's why.

He wasn't willing to sacrifice his ego. That said, he doesn't go out of his way to not-get-along with anyone else. He gets along fine, just doesn't do anything.
