i usually don't start in with these types of threads about prospects after a short sample of NBA games, but i really think we should have taken this kid with our late round pick & said so the weeks leading up to the draft.

i always thought he coulda been a perfect fit for MDA's system w/just the right kind of team first attitude, basketball smarts, intensity & toughness that we all would have loved... kid's got a gorgeous shooting touch from the perimeter, can u imagine him & Gallo on the wings shooting the lights out in this system? & he works hard going after rebounds too... i pegged this kid as David Lee w/a jump shot before the draft, but he can be more than that... he's got quickness for a guy his size, can create for himself & plays well above the rim... i said it before, this kid would have been a perfect longterm solution for us at the 2 & 3 spots, either in the starting rotation or coming off the bench & would have fit in perfectly... plus he was Jordan Hill's teammate in Arizona, so they already have that familiarity w/each other's game.

don't get me wrong, i like Toney Douglas & love his attitude, defense & scoring ability, but i think Budinger would have been a smarter selection because of his size, skills, versatility & better upside (IMHO)

16 / 12 / 5 on 6 of 11 shooting... not bad for his 1st NBA start

check out the game link for a clip of a sweet alley oop dunk he caught in transition to see what kinda hops this kid has:

MDA would have him so firmly glued to the bench.

But hey, when you're a .300 team, there is always a need to start the vets in the vain hope of getting to .400

We definitely agree on Budinger. He went from being a lottery pick to a second rounder for no real reason. His shot and athleticism would have made him a star in NY. This system fits his game better than Hill's and Douglas's.

yeah he made a beeline 3 for his 1st score but didn't get much burn... i think they're just trying to showcase him for a possible trade... Budinger is clearly their SG of the future.

at least him & Hill could had time to share stories about what it was like to actually see some minutes in a rotation i guess.

on the serious note tho, i watched Budinger & Hill play plenty last year in college play & i always thought both would have made nice fits into MDA's system... Budinger especially cuz of his versatility & skills, & Hill because we needed a guy to bring a little nastiness into the paint & i think Hill can do that for u, plus he can knock down a 20 footer & has some post up ability & shotblocking, so he'd made a perfect C for this system as well... if he ever gets any damn minutes to show it that is.

seriously i don't know what the hell all these teams were thinking passing up on him... did they think he was soft just cuz he got his head stomped on by Aubrey Coleman in a game vs. Houston U? (a game that Budinger really helped to rally his team back from a 10 pt. deficit w/less than a minute left in regulation to send into OT & they ended up winning)

Budinger plays w/as much intensity as Nate Robinson with none of the idiotic shenanigans... he's a guy who like Gallo will hit big shots for u & is a tough matchup to guard on the perimeter cuz of his length & height... man, imagine having Chase & Gallo on the wings w/Lee & Hill working inside grabbing rebounds? Duhon woulda had a field day tossing out assists to those guys.

ah well.
