Rose, Westbrook and Mayo all look like really good guards, especially Westbrook, but I watch Gallinari and he's got the stuff to be a star in this league.

He's not a fluid guy, but when the Blazers were comming up on him and trying to keep him from shooting that 3 ball he would put in on the floor and take them off the dribble. He would have had a few more assists if the guys he passed to could have finished a little better.

He also plays D. He gets to a lot of balls for blocks, he's strong and fights for rebounds... he's really showing he can do it all.

That deep 3 he hit when the Knicks were coughing the game up last night changed that whole game around. That shot took cojones. This guy is a winner. I'm still not sure what position he plays here but we got a player

I definitely agree with ya Fish. I think it's easy for people to get on Gallo becuase when you watch the game, he's so unathletic and doesn't have any fluidity to his game, that it just looks like he can't do anything out on the court. In reality, he's VERY crafty and knows exactly how to do what he wants to do. If he wants to put the ball on the floor and go by you, he will, he's not going to look pretty doing it, but he will get by you and either get a layup or kick it out to someone for an open shot. I think the biggest telltale about his craftiness is his defense. He ALWAYS manages to get his hand on the ball one way or another. He plays the passing lanes very well and he's actually a pretty good help defender.

I don't know if I'm ready to say he's best of the draft class, but I was telling BlueSeats last night that I think Gallo is definitely a #1 guy on a team in this league and I can really see him growing into that kind of role, he was surprised when I said it, but I gave many of the same reasons you did. He has the offensive ability to do it and defensively he can surely hold his own, I think the biggest thing holding Gallo back right now is lack of strength. Once he puts on about 10-15lbs of muscle, he's going to absolutely shine.

That's not even close to true. You can name 5 guys looking better out there. Brook Lopez anyone?

Gallo is coming into his own and learning how to play in this league. In two years if healthy and that's an if he could very well be a star. You have to like his active hands on defense and his shot blocking is a welcome surprise. I don't think he needs to add that much muscle just get a little stronger and continue to be aggresive.

Lebron would be downright stupid to stay in cleveland. Dirk is not out of the question from the signs that you see and give him a guy that commands a double team and he is unguardable out there.

I don't know if Gallo is the best in his draft class but I will say 2 things:
1.) You can't still be complaining about the draft pick after what he has shown us so far
2.) He has as much potential as anyone in that class. You cannot say that anyone in that draft taken before or after him is guaranteed to have a better career. He is right there with all of them

As he gets stronger you will see his game change. My college coach used to tell me that the measure of an offensive player is how many times he gets fouled. If a guy is getting fouled a lot he is hard to guard. Right now Gallinari is mainly a 3 point specialist on offense, but you can see the potential. More and more we are getting him shots off picks and he is hitting them(If he's shooting 45 percent from 3, why take a step in??? That's higher then many guys shoot from 2). More and more you are seeing him involved around the basket. His rebounding is getting better daily. And guys foul him everytime he drives to the basket. I'm telling you right now, when he gets stronger and develops a pull up jumpshot when moving towards the basket, it is over. Teams have already recognized that big men can't guard him. So they put small guys on him. Unfortunately he is not strong enough to take advantage of this situation. With added strength he should be able to take these guys inside or punish them off the dribble. This will define his career. If he develops this strength and skillset he is a 20 point scorer everytime he steps on the court. If he doesn't he's just another good shooter.

But you have to be excited about the guy. He's giving us a little bit of everything.

I just hope that people will like me

Very nice post. It remains to be seen how good he'll actually get, but looking at what he's been doing I'd say he'll develop into a 20+ ppg starter with a high shooting % and a reputation for taking the tough shot. His rebounding, passing and defense won't be problems and may turn out to be assets. He needs more strength, coaching and experience, but he's already well on his way.

50 games into his NBA career and he's showing he can do things only a handfull of guys in this league do. Portland's entire defensive scheme was find Gallo and put a SG/SF out there to guard him. The guy has such BBIQ. He never forces shots. When they had Webster come out and force him to pass or put the ball on the floor he put it on the floor, broke down the D and made some brilliant passes that would have been assists if Lee and Hughes his their shots.

He does a great job of using his body to protect the ball when he's taking guys off the dribble, almost like an arm bar.

well at this point of his career, i can't see how any knicks fan wouldn't be excited about his prospects.

it's just too bad he will have to live in the marco bellinelli's shadow in the same divison...much like how lebron will have to with bargs...

very good post... Gallo's biggest improvements will come once he gets stronger, right now guys foul him, but they can also push him further away from the hoop when he tries to post. Once he gets stronger, watch out..

AS far as the draft class, gallo can do everything guys picked ahead or behind him can do. I like gordon, but in the end, he is an undersized SG, as well as mayo, who I like a lot.. Rose, Is he really a PG? I will say this. I am glad westbrook did not fall to us. Never was a huge fan of his and after watching him shoot 4-17 last night, I wonder why the coach lets this guy shoot that much?

And his height and length is such an advantage... when he hit that shot over roy, they showed the view directly behind gallo on the replay. He towered over roy so easily, it was like he was shooting that shot in an empty gym... He is not a great athlete, but he is a good athlete, looks awkward, but he gets it done, so he has some decent level of athletic ability...

i love how he challenges shots and often makes smart passes and is not afraid to take big shots. he's got it. he knows what he's doing out there and i like that he seems to be learning all the time.

i wish we would start he and larry, but whatever. i guess the starting lineup doesn't seem to matter too much right now as we're only playing 8 guys.

but i am pretty optimistic about gallo. the fact that the blazers decided to put Roy on him is pretty crazy.

teams starting putting smalls on Dirk a few years ago. Usually your happy to have a 7 footer taking jumpers, except when they make ALL of them. Gallos shooting (especially from 3) can win games and change momentum. I thought it was good D sticking a smaller athletic defender on him. I thought it was even better than Gallo showed his game is more complex than that and started beating guys off the dribble.
