If a trade situation came up where ne of those had to be traded, which one would you trade? Why?
I understanf Hill is the high pick but I am really very high on TD, so its a tuough call for me. I see the whole T-Mac thread people are willing to trade away TD but not Hill. Is it simply because of where they were picked or are there other reasons involved?

Hill. It is much harder to get a good big man. Hill has shown flashes and is improving despite limited minutes and a coach who asks his bigs to play small.

I keep Douglas. Kid has fire and smarts. He likes to learn. He wants to be better.

Hill seems like a kid who is waiting for class to end so he can go grab a smoke. I don't like it.

I like them both. Trade vets for young players, not the other way.

I would not make a trade of either, but i'd have to say right now that TD wins on what he's shown, but I do believe Hill is gonna come around and be a good big. I doubt highly that we'll see either of them traded. Hill has all the skills needed to be a success in MDA's scheme. I love his stroke and range.

Yep. Unless we're trading Curry/Jeffries then there's no point in trading them.

i'd trade either in the right deal, but trading Hill for T-Mac IMO is not the right deal... i'd sooner trade TD than Hill tho... u can find guys like TD w/late 1st round picks every year, hard working blue collar combo guards are much easier to find than talented bigmen... Jordan Hill was taken 8th & that warrants a little more patience in my eyes... i liked what i saw out of him in college tho.

Yup.

Too early to make decisions like this unless you are getting an all-star or borderline all-star who is 24-5 years old.

See, part of my argument is that once the draft is over what difference does it make where they were taken? Why make decisions to justify a number that has no further bearing on the future? Based on the on court prodction I would still pick TD over Hill, I like them both as well. And I am not holding Hill repoonsible for his lack of PT, he has made use of what he has got.

I think if we look at trades in the next few months Walsh may have to make this choice and I would be interested in understanding what goes into that thought process. I think there is a dangerous practice of putting too much relevance into the draft position. Right now if TD plays better than Hill, why should their draft positions have anything to do with the decision? I know its hard to move on from the emotions around the draft and all the gazillion "what if" scenarios, but that is in the past. Why let that emotional bagggage affect our future decisions?

once again bigmen take longer to develop than guards do... u will see once Jordan Hill gets minutes he will put up numbers... i love Toney Douglas' work ethic & love everything about his approach to the game, but the fact remains talented bigment are harder to come by than undersized SG's like TD... this is no knock on TD's game, it's just a general truth... u may not agree that Hill has as much upside as TD & you're welcome to ur opinion... i happen to disagree.

No, I do agree with your last post and I don't have an issue if those are the considerations that go in to the decision. But what I hear a lot of times is "you don't ant to trade a high pick for T-Mac etc". That is what makes no sense to me. If the player picked higher is indeed better than the other player in the discussion then keep him by all means, if not he should be traded first regardless of where he was picked. To me the draft is 20% diligence, 10% skill/experience(of the GM) and about 70% luck, why so much faith is put into the position where someone was drafted is what I don't understand.

if u had to judge each player on their own right now & where they are in terms of skills, i'd say Toney Douglas is better in those terms, but i think Jordan Hill has the higher ceiling & better chance to make a bigger impact on this team in areas of huge need, namely frontcourt shotblocking & a guy who can either play alongside D Lee or replace him altogether... can't really fairly say what Douglas' upside is at this point w/such a limited sample but it's rare that guys his size come out & make a huge impact on teams even w/years of NBA development... guys his size & age that have that superstar talent usually come out & show it right out the gate... at 23 going on 24 years of age, i dunno how much better Douglas will get at this point.
