these are very solid initial moves
im not going to get into why vranes shouldve never been on the roster in the first place but i knew he was toast without laydumb there

of course bringing sweetney onto the active roster is smart w t fudge is weatherspoon in long term commitment other than we have to pay him a ton of money?

laydumb was selfish and stupid for keeping vranes on the roster when we needed a 2-3 SGSF

So does cutting Vranes mean we are going to sign a legit SG backup? Or are we freeing up space for a 1 for 2 trade? This had to have been done with something in mind. I'm waiting for the move to fill up the free roster spot. Anybody know any SG that are still unsigned by the way?
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

If this news is true we had better get a scoring guard that can help us out then because you cant teach 7'6". I would have liked for them to find another way, but we do need a backup SG. Any word on Lampe?

Thomas said he did not address his players, but, through the news media, he threw down the gauntlet.

Then he wasted no time in altering his roster, and is hoping for more drastic moves to come.

Thomas waived the 7-foot-5 rookie Slavko Vranes to free roster space, activated the rookie first-round pick Mike Sweetney to evaluate his talent, and put the veteran Clarence Weatherspoon on the injured list. That leaves one roster spot open.

Thanks for the link knicks10, it was really an awesome read!

Thomas, who was named the Knicks' president of basketball operations on Monday, indicated that he was distressed that his players did nothing throughout the game to get tough with Sprewell or to defend their assistant coach.

Thomas did not spell out what he thought the Knicks should have done. But back in his days with the Bad Boys of the Detroit Pistons, Thomas or Bill Laimbeer or Rick Mahorn would probably not have let Sprewell get away with such antics.

``It just wouldn't have happened,'' Thomas said Wednesday afternoon.

But such is the state of the Knicks, which Thomas likened to a ``sick patient.''

``All I know is, something happened in our house last night that I hope won't happen again,'' he said.

I FREAKIN LOVE ISIAH THOMAS!

Now that's a move in the right direction.

Isaiah is gonna stop all the madness with the soft image. Watch how he pulls a magic act and makes the SOFT players and coaches disappear! "Poof"! IMO Dolan is so embarrassed after that game that he'll let Isaiah do whatever has to be done to avoid the chance of it happening again. Dolan has yet to get off that "playofffs this year" silliness, though. We need to be positioning ourselves to go deep in the playoffs next year. If he makes significant changes before the trade deadline, that could possibly change. Zeke's already prepearing to make a move from the way this last move went down.

Cutting Vranes for sign/trade space and tossing Spoon to the IR for Sweets are just the kinds of things that need to happen.

I said that I am hopeful that Isaiah Thomas will make the kinds of changes that need to take place, and even a fairly minor move like this is a positive one IMO.

The Knicks just might soon be back to the good old type of team that I rooted so hard for in the 90's- a relentless, effective, never back down HARDCORE team that HARDCORE fans like me love to see. This time around there will be more youth and skill involved.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I see Hardcore has some renewed faith in the Knicks now that Zeke is here...it is exciting, but I want to see the changes happen - I know we have to be patient, but after the Layden regime I am tired of waiting and hoping something good will happen - hopefully some good moves are on the way.

What happen to let's just wait on winning now and just lose by playing the rooks??? So many made that claim!
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Playa, Sweetney was just put in the rotation. Lampe should follow suit soon. The rooks WILL play now that LayDown is outta here.

Yes, Oasis... You are right. I do. Why? Because I am finally seeing some changes. The funny thing is that they happened because of the Knicks sorry record, which I expected and predicted. It only started significantly sooner than anyone thought it would.

I too was both tired and disgusted about the whole LayDown "wait and be patient" crap. Some fans were just willing to go through the motions heaping hopes on LayDown's back, but I wasn't about to fall for the okey-doke. We have a fresh face in a decisionmaking role and am anxious to see how he'll turn this mess around. I am extremely optimistic now. I have good feeling that Isaiah will make improvements and help return some respectability to the Knicks. It seems like his impact is already being felt.

Its christmas Hardcore, so I'll be nice. Why not just say your thing without trying to elevate your opinion by rendering one on other people. Your not entirly correct in your statement. Its cool to say your piece, but why not just leave others alone. Argue the specific point, but generalization is antagonistic. We end up argueing over many things, when in fact we agree on most points.

I agree with your post. But your not correct to say that your smarter than others. You accuse me of the okey doke, but I firmly boycotted and hold my ground. Others talked open about hatred of Laydog, and talked of boycotting. Ok, you like those folks, but disrespected my view. You talked of your hatred of Laydog, and go to games, thus funding the madness? See my point? Now no sense in denying you a basketball fan and like going to the garden. Good for you, but when your "Hardcore", you leave little room for yourself, if you don't for others?

So why not just put it all behind, we got a nice dose of hope we can chew in. WE all want the same thing, and we can agree and disagree, but why not just say we were all victims in one way or another for what ever reason, and that dark period is behind us.

Peace, merry x-mas

Okay, I didn't say "Nedyal" in that entire post. Why do you take it personally? Is it because you feel like you fell for the okey-doke when looking back in 20/20 hindsight? If it was a matter of calling out names instead of generalizing, I have no problem doing that. I was referring to a cross-section of fans who let the news and the Knicks front office dictate their opinions to them. I say my piece like everyone else on this board. Read my posts. When I get into something confrontational with someone, it's 90% because they either came directly at me by name or reference with some disrespect. We do agree on alot of things, but at times you lower the level of the exchange.

I agree with your post. But your not correct to say that your smarter than others.
Please quote the post where I made any such atatement, Neydal.

You accuse me of the okey doke, but I firmly boycotted and hold my ground.
Once again, you took it like I singled you out. I have done that in other posts, but the post in question had no direct references to you whatsoever.

Others talked open about hatred of Laydog, and talked of boycotting. Ok, you like those folks, but disrespected my view.
Disrespected your view? We only got into it over LayDown for the most part. Whatever happened to the whole "just fun" reasoning?

You talked of your hatred of Laydog, and go to games, thus funding the madness? See my point?
I went to games before, during and after LayDown's tenure. If everyone who went to the Garden were only pro-Dolan types, then the Knicks wouldn't get booed when they stink up the place, and no one would even been chanting "Fire Layden" at games either.

Now no sense in denying you a basketball fan and like going to the garden. Good for you, but when your "Hardcore", you leave little room for yourself, if you don't for others?
I chose my name based on what I represent. That way there is never a need to change it. Read between the lines on that one.

So why not just put it all behind, we got a nice dose of hope we can chew in. WE all want the same thing, and we can agree and disagree, but why not just say we were all victims in one way or another for what ever reason, and that dark period is behind us.
I waited a long time for this to be the case. Yes, now we do have hope. What we disagreed about before was what would provide that hope. You saw hope in LayDown, I did not. Now LayDown is dumped to the curb and we have hope. It's what I was saying needed to happen all along. Brighter days are visible on the horizon now. If we can agree on that, we'd be on the same page. If that is indeed the case, then it's all for the better.

Peace, merry x-mas
Peace unto you as well. Happy holidays.

While deactivating Spoon and kicking Vranes were both excellent moves, i still dont have any hope for Sweets. We already have PF's and Sweets is certainly not going to help. As Zeke said himself, we need a project that can work NOW, not in 2-3 years (and i dont think Sweets will be good then, either).

Hopefully, Zeke is just putting him on the roster so that he can be part of the package of the Knicks that gets traded.
