Knicks president Donnie Walsh has explained why the team passed on signing free-agent guard Allen Iverson.

The team opted not to sign Iverson late Thursday night after Walsh, coach Mike D'Antoni and owner James Dolan exhausted the possibility.

"It did get interesting for a while because Allen's a great player and has always been a great player," Walsh said. "You're 1-9 and you're thinking, 'We've got to get some help in here.' But when we rethought it and I talked to Mike and he talked to me, we feel that could hurt our development of the future, and so we want to go the way we're going.

"There will be other things we can do during the year that will be more in line with what our philosophy has been entering into this. And I want to really make it clear that this has nothing to do with Iverson. He's a great player, I've always admired him. I think he'd be a great addition for a team that is in a different position than we're in, and I hope he gets picked up."

Iverson was waived by the Grizzlies on Tuesday and became an unrestricted free agent on Thursday evening.

That's a strange statement. Can't he just say he's committed to his players? That's what every other GM would say.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

What a load BS. Walsh, this is getting old. If you had no intention of signing AI, you should have said that from the beginning.

He's basically saying, "we know AI is better than our players, but he's kind of a pain in the arse and we're not going anywhere so... I'm going back to sleep for the long winter."

What's the point of that?

Just say, "At the end of the day, we like what we have here, and would rather try to accomplish our goals from within."

Maybe, I don't know, inspire Duhon to clear his head, or Nate to shake off the pain, or Douglas to take another step.

Hopefully the players appreciate that the coach went to bat for him.

1.) I understand the decision
2.) I hate the decision and think it would have been a harmless move
3.) The team better win or else there will be riots in the streets
4.) I have no problem with what Walsh said.

Don't overlook this part. I think this is why he's not saying he's committed to these players. Showcase and ship out?

i'm just scratching my head as to what those moves are that Donnie's alluding to that we can do during the course of the year that will be more in line w/what we're trying to accomplish here... is there a Ricky Rubio trade on the horizon? if he pulls that one off there'll be bukkake spillage bigtime at the Garden.

i think he's talking about possibly sleeping in a hammock, or moving onto a comfortable futon...possible even a lay-z-boy recliner.

that's the ideal scenario but how does he know we'll be able to accomplish those things at this point? those are still huge hypotheticals he's talking about cuz we still don't know if Curry will be productive for the rest of this season or remain healthy for that matter... we already know Fishlips is pretty much a scrub earning $7 mil per next year, who's gonna be interested in a player like that?

If he gets Rubio, we might forgive him for missing out on Jennings.

if he gets Rubio i will be shooting him props til there's no tomorrow... but i don't wanna get my hopes up anymore w/this team... just leads to more disappointment.

Question.

If DW has total authority over the team, why was Little Jimmy's name mentioned?
