That's one of those debatable issues. To tank or not to tank. You make it sound like we could actually have gotten rid of all our big contracts without trying to win 1st. We had to get Zach and Jamal looking good in order to move them. When we were losing big, no one wanted to make deals with us. At least not a deal that didn't continue to keep us in cap hell.
If we make too much of not signing guys like PEJ instead of a Roberson, then I think we're just getting into the minutia of the road to rebuilding. Those players are fringe guys so who cares about how that turned out? The business end of what Walsh has done has left us with a huge amount of cap space when we need it most. We actually have a chance to showcase Curry and tho I don't personally think it'll work, it's worth trying to get him going and see if someone bites. With Duhon still here we know he's not gonna take any shots away from Curry or any of the kids. Yeah he's stunk, but he's safe in terms of any kind of circus stuff.
i've been a proponent of tanking ever since i started posting on Knicks forums... i knew this team wasn't gonna compete w/the talent they had, so we would be better off biting the bullet completely for a season & trying to increase our chances of landing a top young talent to build around through the draft... instead the Knicks chose to trade our #7 pick & Camby for Antonio McKnee & won just enough games to draft Mike "The Truth" Sweetney instead of guys like Lebron, Wade, Melo & Bosh in consecutive seasons... look where that's gotten this franchise... let's face it, if we had gone all in on a complete rebuild when Donnie took over we would have just dumped Zach & Jamal for any old expirings & whatever picks we could get our hands on... instead they tried to get players who could still contribute & help this team win games in Harrington, Mobley & Hughes who also had expiring contracts... well if that was the plan then i see no reason they they passed on signing AI now, he would have fit into that mold perfectly... a veteran player on a 1 year deal who could have helped this team win some games this year while not sacrificing the 2010 plan... obviously there were other factors that made the Knicks pass on AI than the excuse Donnie's trying to sell us on now.
& it's not the fact that it was a big deal in choosing Robersuck over PEJ, rather that neither move was going to help this team much regardless so why not choose the avenue that would please Knick fans more? that's what i don't get... Donnie Walsh couldn't have been so stupid as to think a scrub like Robersuck was gonna have much of an impact on this team, so why not bring Ewing's kid in here & give Knick fans someone to cheer for? throw the fans a bone for God's sakes.
as for showcasing Curry to increase his value, signing AI would have been way more beneficial towards achieving that goal than staying the course w/Duhon would if u ask me... AI & Curry in the P&R is something i would be very interested in watching... i think AI would have made Curry look so much better than Duhon ever could.
