siging AI to a multi-year contract would have sent the message that it's the same old Knicks making the same old loser mistakes... signing him as a 1 year rental sends the message that the Knicks aren't happy w/being a losing franchise & are at least trying to improve themselves while remaining fiscally responsible w/the cap longterm... AI can still play at a high level.
if you're a FA this offseason how do u conclude that a team of Gallo, Hill, TD & Chandler, 4 unproven young talents, is one that you wanna go to? that's a rebuilding situation that will take some years to blossom, not one that screams "we're building a contender here, come join us!", especially if you're coming off yet another miserable season like the one we're well on our way this year to seeing... the only way we can be a really attractive destination for someone like Lebron is if we can dump a contract like Curry or Fishlips to gain the flexibility to sign another max guy like Bosh, Wade, Amare, etc. along with him, & signing AI would have been an excellent way to pump up Eddy Curry's value this season... him & AI would have worked perfectly in the P&R, the team would have been improved, & the players' confidence would have been increased playing alongside a guy like AI... we're talking about a 2-9 team here, not the Denver Nuggets or the Detroit Pistons... any glimmer of hope would have been a positive for everyone involved, & AI would have been a huge upgrade over Chris Duhon no matter what explanations u wanna come up with for passing on him... there were very minimal risks involved & some pretty big potential benefits... i just don't agree on passing on AI, & i've been 1 of the biggest supporters of Donnie Walsh's plan from the very beginning... signing AI would not have negatively effected the 2010 whatsoever.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
