But in Mike D’Antoni’s offense, Eddy won’t just plant himself on the block and stay there once he makes it upcourt. Bigs in MD’A's system get down the floor, post up quickly, and if they don’t get the ball, roll or move to set a pick before re-establishing themselves down low, if necessary.

That’s a lot going on for a guy who’s been used to simply catching the ball, getting swarmed and deciding (often with some difficulty) what to do with it. And who, despite better than average footwork for a big man, still isn’t considered a ballet dancer.

MD’A thinks that ultimately, an effective Eddy will draw double teams and open up the perimeter when he gets the ball. But unless Eddy has morphed into Bill Walton or Arvydas Sabonis during his layoff, getting the ball back out to open shooters might take some doing, because he’s never even averaged one assist per game.

I think if we look to play inside out with Eddie Curry that is going to be a recipe for disaster and frustration. We need to use the ability to shoot on the outside to open up Curry on the inside. Curry is not going to consistently make good passes out of the post to feed the shooters or cutters.

The most effective way to use Curry would be to spread the floor with Gallo or Harrington as the 4 man when Curry is in the game and hopefully give Curry the space to go after rebounds and putbacks using his size and quickness forcing opponents to either choose sag off of the 3 pt shooters to stop Curry or pressure the 3 pt shooters freeing up Curry to play one on one basketball. Of course also using the pick and roll, and getting inside feeds from PG penetration if we ever get any.

We should avoid posting Curry up unless unavoidable or a huge mismatch. Curry is never going to be skilled like Shaq or Duncan in the post. But he can be a good off the ball non play drawn up for type of center.

NYNY aren't you ignoring one fact... that Curry is the worst "non play drawn up for" type of center there is or ever was?
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

if we can squeeze out 35 wins out of this season it'll be a miracle as it is.

it will be a miracle if we end up in the 20's!

If we don't beat the nets, we could end up not getting our second win until December or later.

Curry was used very much the way MDA's system dictates when he 1st had success in Chicago. When he's not the pure post up focus of an offense, he's actually better! I think Curry playing off the ball always lurking and ready to receive a pass for the easy score will really mess with defenses, cuz he's just too tough to stop in the paint when he's already moving.

key things about Curry:

Unlike much of the team that has given up on this season and somehow think they are getting another contract, Curry is super motivated - losing all that weight is proof.

Curry at the C pushes Lee to the 4, giving us a chance of 1. not being outrebounded every night because the other team reaches over us and bullies us, and 2. allows Lee to maybe not be super over matched on defense every night.

i doubt Curry's gonna help much in the rebounding dept, but he'll make a difference on offense cuz of the low post scoring presence he provides.

he's never averaged big numbers himself.

But, I think he will average higher numbers - my god, how slimmed down is he? That speaks motivation.

And to quote Scott Skiles, I think Eddy will jump now.

The bigger issue is Eddy is a wide body, takes up space, and allows Lee to board against smaller guys (e.g., 4's vs. a 5).

i don't think it really makes a difference rebounding as a 4 compared to a 5, ur gonna be fighting w/ur own teammates for rebounds as well as opponents... obviously height & size helps, but to me rebounding's more about hustle, positioning & instincts... look at Gerald Wallace, he's 1 of the leaders in the NBA in rebounding right now & he's only 6'7" 220 lbs.

i'm gonna optimistically hope to get 13 & 5 out of Eddy Curry in about 26 mpg this season... anything more than that i'll be pretty shocked.

The one way that Curry does fit in with this team is that he can't clog up the lane for anyone if nobody drives to the basket in the first place.

I have to see this guy play without just squatting in the post before I believe it. Most one dimensional big man I've seen. Who even comes close?

Maybe Thabeet as a pure shot blocker?
