Answer and explain please:
Throw the computer out the window?
Throw the computer at Bips head?
Blame Bip?
Take a trip to China and climb on top of the plane at it's highest peak and throw the comp in the ocean?
Leave it at a Friends house and trust he'll fix it even though he probably wont, as I am.
Buy a laptop with your income tax money as I most likely will.

u might have to format the HD & reinstall the operating system... no reason to throw out the laptop, it's just the HD that's the problem... worse case scenario if the HD is physically damaged u might have to replace that, but that's the worst case scenario.

if there's data on the HD that u really wanna try & salvage, try taking out the HD & plugging it into another computer using an external USB case (they run pretty cheap) & then see if u can run a virus scan on it that way.

My nights of being Allanfan`d have been few and far in between lately.

However, TMS gave some good advise. I might just try it. In the meantime, Im just going to hope that my friend can help fix it. I have faith in him.

I think Im going to buy that laptop regardless. I will need one soon!

i'm gonna try to follow your initial directions.

Answer:

get a laptop man

Explain:

then you're mobile. can take it anywhere. i switched a few years back and it was the best decision ever for me. plus, desktops take up alot of space in the house too. dont know how roomy your place is but for me getting rid of my desktop pc allowed me to get rid of the desk that it was on too. big space saver.

Fair enough... I cannot get Allanfan'ed because it is against the law here.

Question: what and where will you use your computer for? I ask because in the interim a desktop may make sense (cheaper)... there making these phones now that run better operating systems than what I use now. I wouldn't be suprised if in the forseeable future you could plug your phone into a docking system and load documents from online (such as Google docs). Windows Mobile/Android are all BEASTS.

If you're planning to game or edit movies or program, you'll need a laptop. But these "phones" are becoming nuts

Three options:

1) Complicated: Learn to isolate the reproductive virus files in registry and in the windows/system directory. Unregister DLLs. Ban access to the files, etc. Until you can delete them.
2) Find a second computer on hand. Take the infected drive out of the computer. Place this drive as a slave drive on a good computer. Boot the good computer. Virus scan the infected drive (which is not booted, therefore, the virus is not loaded into memory, therefore it is now just a dormant file, therefore you can remove it without problem.) Or, again, manually delete all suspect files.
3) Bite the bullet and wipe the drive, format the drive, reinstall windows.

First backup all your data. Second, the best approach to this issue I've seen are the programs that remove the virus or malware before your OS fully loads. There are two tools I know of that do this and both have free downloadable versions.

MalwareBytes What it does is have you reboot after a virus is detected and it tries to remove the virus/malware before all the Windows Services, etc., load. You can also try running it in safe mode. I'd probably try MalwareBytes first. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php. Do be careful when downloading this one because the CNET download page has two download buttons on it. One is an advertisement for another product. You want to click the one that says:

Download Now
Tested Spyware Free

IF MalwareBytes can't get rid of it, bring out the big guns: Check out the "Avira AntiVir Rescue System". It makes a linux boot CD. You boot with that cd and it scans your hard drive. Windows isn't loaded so the virus can't load and prevent removal. There's an ISO download and an EXE download. I think the .EXE download can write a bootable CD for you so you should download that one.

You reboot with the cd you created. Do check the options before you scan as it will only scan the drive be default and won't actually remove the virus. You need to tell it to remove / rename virus files in the options.

http://www.avira.com/en/support/support_downloads.html

If these didn't work, I'd reinstall. Don't forget to backup your data first.

Good luck.

Jones that sounds like good advise and I would try it but the virus wont let me connect to the internet in order to do something like that.

I might have to either ssee if i can reformat the thing or try connecting the harddrive to another computer and see how that goes..

Supreme. The purpose of me getting a laptop is for school. I dont really download too many things to be honest. I also dont really need my phone for the internet. Thats why I got a simple Envy3. Its good for calling and texting and thats all I need.

From what I've heard, Windows 7 is supposed to a beast... I'd get a new comp with that installed. I wouldn't anticipate you having any problems with educational software. That should be able to handle whatever your needs are for a very long time. Furhtermore, I used an old, ****ty laptop in grad school and ended up losing a lot of stuff I developed in school. So I'd recommend you buy one regardless of salvaging the other one. The best scenario would be to salvage the old and use it to watch porn and use the new system to develop whatever you're studying

and I have never purchased a phone--only used what the provider gave--but these new phones can also handle insane computing functions. Seriously, I wouldn't be suprised if within the next five years the "phone" is a portable computer that can plug into a docking system and serve as a computer. Some of the stuff I've seen these phones about to come out do is insane, like run multiple movies from a library in mini windows simultaneously until one is selected to go full screen... and it was all seamless. Amazing

wow, good advise here. I have learned a few things.

BTW, I regularly wipe and reinstall my OS (every 6-12 months), but I have all my software and am pretty familiar with the process (which can be daunting to a newbie). Also back up my MyDocuments directory, etc regularly. good habits.

You could try making that Avira CD on another computer. There's a good chance you'll wind up reinstalling. It happens.
