But it appears that D'Antoni has run out of patience with Chandler, who has started the first 10 games, first at guard and more recently at forward. A demotion would mark a setback for both Chandler and the Knicks. D'Antoni has said a number of times that one of his primary objectives this season is to develop his top young players, starting with Danilo Gallinari and Chandler.

Against the Warriors, D'Antoni started Jordan Hill in Chandler's spot in the second half, and Chandler ended up playing a season-low 25 minutes and scoring eight points as the Knicks stumbled to the worst start in franchise history at 1-9.

Yesterday, D'Antoni concentrated on defense, with Jared Jeffries, a reserve since the fourth game of the season, working with the first team and Chandler a second-teamer. As for Chandler's move to the bench, D'Antoni wasn't ready to announce it. "We're still searching a little bit," he said. "We don't know yet, to be honest with you."

But Chandler's ineffectiveness has caused enough concern for team president Donnie Walsh to want to have a sit-down with his third-year player. "I think a lot of times younger players don't know how to deal with this kind of losing," Walsh said. "That's why I want to talk with him, to see if there's anything there."

Chandler had a brief chat with Walsh on his way off the practice floor, then seemed resigned to losing his starting berth.

"I don't know if I deserve it, but that doesn't matter right now," he said. "We're 1-9 and the most important thing is to get a 'W.' I won't be disappointed because it's a team effort and if you're a team player, you've got to be willing to do that."

He hasnt played well at all.

If we are concentrating on defense why not sit David Lee? And I sure as hell hope Douglas remains a starter. I heard he was limited because of a flu/stomach virus, but once thats done he's earned 30 minutes a night.

I like this decision. He is pressing and not looking good out there. I would like to see him used more at the four and be more aggressive. TD-Hughes-JJ-Gallo-Lee is not much offense, but the bench will be very strong

I would still start Hill and push Lee to PF, at least for the first part of the game. Hill plays well, he stays in. Hill plays poorly, we bring Jeffries in sooner than later. Douglas, Hughes, Gallo, Lee, and Hill gives us the best outside shooting team we can put on the floor at this point.

It will be interesting to see how Chandler takes things. I think his injury has slowed him, but he sure has regressed in other ways this year, and you wonder how he will take the demotion.

Changing the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Just get Chandler right. That's worth a lot more than switching changing rotations around.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

There's even more incentive to look to try and feed Gallo more. I'm tired of watching us ignore the best shooter on the team as we watch other guys hoist brick after brick. It's time to feature Gallo and see what he can do as a focal point rather than an outlet. I'm also anxious to see more of Hill and see if we can't get him more comfortable and less foul prone.

Chan will eventually get it together. He needs to really focus on taking it strong and really he should be used more like Marion, but we just don't have the PG player to set him up properly for easy baskets.

I am guessing that is waiting for Hill to play better than Lee in practice. Earning it.

I agree... but no starter on a 1-9 team can beef about a line up change.

I think Chandler should just not be allowed to shoot 3's. Its out of his range. Lets get our strongest and most athletic player in the paint and see what happens.

Not a matter of 'if'...just 'when', in terms of Hill starting.

Has Lee really earned it? We're 1 and 9.

Its time to charge the paddles, yell 'CLEAR'. Not tinker with a minor move.

WTF! Bench all the starters. Send a god darn freakin message!

There's no upside to giving Chandler a quick hook. You're 1-9 and you're team sucks- what are we aiming for here. Its not like Jeffries is any good and is gonna make a difference in our winning games.

not sure it's about giving him a quick hook but may be about sending him a strong message that he has to change his ways. I am pretty sure the coaching staff has told him the same things we are seeing, but he has not responded. Gotta try something different.

i have a better idea for MDA... tell Fishlips to stop attempting jumpshots period, tell Lee to start playing some defense downlow, tell Al Harrington & Nate they're not playing 1 on 5, & tell Duhon to stop playing like he's drunk... but hopefully this move will help Chandler grow some balls & stop being so weak... guy needs to grow up sometime... if he can't deal w/adversity & needs to be coddled in order to succeed then we need to consider other options going forward... Al Harrington responded to his benching by putting up 46 pts. the first game off the bench... Wilson needs to take this on as a challenge & rise up to it, not hang his head & sulk.

As The Mayor's Campaign Manager I must second the motion of my colleague from the home of the world champion New York Yankees, The Stage Deli, The A Train, home of some of the most immortal original music ever produced by Americans - The Village Vanguard, Ray's Pizza... the great Empire State of New York... and demand a recount.

The Mayor, in a courageous return from injury, is experiencing the same uncertainty that all of us must face as our bodies change, or are subjected to surgery. The Mayor wanted me to share with you, his constituents, how personally disappointed he is with his first ten games of the season and vows to improve. He vows to not only return to the form that saw him average a respectable 14 points and 7 rebounds in his first full season, but to exceed expectations for his sophomore season in the rotation.

Keep hope alive

Changing everyone but Duhon. Seems like coach is wearing rose-colored glasses while watching his PG at work. My lineup of the moment:

Douglas
Hughes
Gallo
Hill
Darko

Nate, Lee, Harrington and Chandler off the bench.

You know I gonna spin wit it

The Mayor Has Never, Nor Will He Ever Sulk, Or Suck For That Matter

TMS - Wilson needs to take this on as a challenge & rise up to it, not hang his head & sulk.

I beg to differ with this gross mischaracterization of The Mayor. He may be struggling to find his apparently absent basketball skills but his honorable-ness has never been documented as demonstrating any negative, selfish or inflated self worthiness. The Mayor does not sulk.

I demand a retraction.

a retraction for what? it was a rhetorical statement, not a statement of fact... dude needs to take this challenge head on & show the coach he's not gonna let this demotion get him down... nothing wrong w/what i said.
