Like I've been saying, he underestimated the intensity of the NY media/fans when you put a product like this on the floor. When we're setting records for ineptitude down the road another month from now, the press will not care that 2010 is coming up. They will not care. They will start digging up everything that Walsh has done wrong and laying out a case for him to be removed just like they did with Layden, LB and Isiah.
You cannot do this in NYC. Its not about patience. Its about the resources all the NY teams have and the expectation that our teams should not embarrass us no matter what.
Walsh left this team without players to perform basic basketball positional skills. We don't have a SG. This is the NBA. We don't have a freaking shooting guard. Our point guards are horrific in terms of initiating the offense, and the system is predicated on exactly that. Its really amazing. There were plenty of shooting guards and points available in the draft. Just ridiculous that he went with a forward. I know he's looking for an Amare clone, but Hill is not Amare. Sign Stromile Swift off the street for a year for god's sake. The backcourt should have been a priority.
DW doesnt care what fans think and nor should he. Most good GMs done.
He has set this roster up to sign two max earners this summer. After that he can use his expiring contracts to add good role players (JJ and or Curry whoever is left).
He's going to get a couple big guns in here. The question is will we be happy with who signs? I mean Lebron and Bosh sounds great! Joe Johnson and Michael Redd not so much.
Time will tell but like it or not that is the plan. We will also have a pretty good idea how he did with Gallo, Douglas and Hill by the end of the year. We dont know now.
