John Thompson as head coach and Starks as an assistant coach. We would have a very knowledgable Coach who preaches defense and has shown he can handle any player under his leadership, and the fans will support him.

Now Combine this with Zeke as GM and we will assemble a team with a personality, New York State of Mind, and a Can't QUIT ATTITUDE.

Could it be the corporate checks and controls kicked in? I mean, Cablevision is a public company, with an independent board, and independent committees, and since Enron/Worldcom/Tyco public companies can no longer serve as the personal play things of executives. Could it be that Dolan had to do this? Could it be that he cannot fulfill his vision of being like Mark Cuban, because Cuban answers to nobody, while Dolan answers to Wall Street?

Dolan did not seem like a happy camper at all, and he conducted himself as if he was given in to mindset of the masses against his own judgement. He didn't even pronounce Isiah's name properly. To me he seemed bothered.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

too me it seems like he didn't even know who Isiah was...which is very possible. He seems like he has no idea about sports when he's up at the there asking questions.

Very true about Dolan. I noticed the same thing. He was all huffy-puffy and IMO knew that by this happening it was like he was eating crow. He talked so much about how LayDoen was gonna be here fgor years and now a new GM is being announced after less than 3 months into the season. It was so satisfying watching Dolan squirm. I said months ago that he'll end up eating those words when he had that press conference at the start of the season.

Hopefully he is bothered and plain embarrassed enough to back the hell up and let the basketball heads make the basketball decisions. He will never be any Mark Cuban. However, he can still get props for installing the right personnel to call the proper shots.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Dolan, may be bothered by the move, but I hope Zeke, keeps Chaney. Players are turning for the better. But if Zeke, decides for a coaching change John Thompson, is a good choice. I also like to see Rick Mahorn...

You finally agree that Chaney needs to go??

I wouldn't mind seeing R.Mahorn.......For everyone calling out for Doc Rivers, just remember that comment that TMAC made a few weeks back about not being able to recognize a ZONE defense

Layden is gone, that in it self says we are going in a different direction. I want Thompson because he has been evaluating games and seems to know what is happening in the NBA and what direction the legue is going. Dikembe would be played properly.

Thompson need a dominant center. Knicks dont have one. We will waste a season or so before we can get a center to run Thompson's schemes.

Thats the most stupid thing I have read so far. Thompson has his Dekeme Mutombo. He is the one who found him and made him.

how about this: Thomas is a better player when he starts/plays next to a dominant post player so he can pop out and hit the 15 footer.

Another 2-3 years. He is in good shape or as long as his hospital take to get built.

BUt I'm not a big John Thompson fan. I like him as a college coach but the pro game his style would never get the players respect in the NBA. They would revolt on him after the first 30 games. The full press game is to hard on a 82 game schedule.

You are not seriously trying to tell me that Thompson is going to run a team around Dikembe? I said he needs a DOMINANT center.

Who do you want to run it around Shaq, Duncan those guys aren't available. Not many center in the game today. Mutombo might have to do. Thats just the state of the NBA right now. No centers or atleast not very good ones. Beside Thompson would love to be around Deke again after all that was his center at Goergetown. But ike I said I'm just not big on John Thompson as NYK coach, his style would run the players into the ground.

Exactly my point! There arent dominant centers available and an offense that runs around a center would be a waste for a few before he can find one!! Read what I posted at first.

P.T.I. just asked Doc Rivers about job in NY, Doc replied: I have too much respect for Chaney to coach the knicks this yr and that he is comfortable where he is right now I need a break . Next yr that could change he said.

Thomas had failed to speak to Chaney, which fueled speculation that the coach would be lucky to survive the season. Chaney was not permitted by the organization to speak to the media yesterday. He also did not attend Thomas' press conference.

But it would be hypocritical of Thomas to come in and make an immediate coaching change, especially since he is still upset that Bird fired him a month after arriving in Indiana.

"From that experience, I'm definitely much more compassionate," said Thomas, who went 131-115 in three seasons with the Pacers. "You understand what's happening. This was Larry's first time managing people. I've been a manager before. I'm not that type of manager he is. I'm a different kind of manager. I believe in helping people. I don't believe in hurting people. This is a difficult situation. My job is to help the coach, not hurt the coach."

Isiah Thomas sat down Tuesday with Don Chaney to discuss the state of the New York Knicks, with the new team president providing no job security assurances to the coach.

``We talked about the team, we didn't talk about my status,'' Chaney said. ``He knows me, he knows where I'm coming from, he knows who I am.
