Maybe if Berman bothered to check his personal agenda, watch and analyze the present - and not make assumptions based on the past - he might have offered an insight or an original thought. This guy gets all access to players, practice, team officials and coaches and the best he could write about at Summer League was pure drivel. Nothing insightful or incisive. Nothing whatsoever. Then another story about Marbury to start this week. Marbury. He gets paid to write about Marbury?

Certainly this is nothing new, but it demands recognition by basketball fans of all things New York.

Meanwhile the Knicks have some interesting sub plots and developing stories.

Suddenly Toney Douglas finds the hoop, Chris Duhon can't miss if he tried. (7-8 in the first half) and The Mayor is The Mayor.

One more thing - Keep Marcus Landry, who is the feel good story of October. Jordan Hill will be just fine.

Larry Hughes can take a hike.

I think the blogs do a MUCH better job of covering the team than the beat writers!!! They seem to dig deeper and try to really asses the team and the players as well as what's happening from the coaching perspective. Guys like Berman seem to just want to do bash pieces and rehash the past. To heck with that past crap, what's going on with the team now? Also is it too much to ask to have a more fan friendly perspective when it's not necessary to discuss past poor performance? Think about it? NY is full of NY Knicks fans and the last thing you want to read after your team wins and looks good is an article that seems to be written from a Boston Celtic fan's perspective!!! You're all pumped up and want to keep the good feeling going and maybe read some insights on things you may have missed, but what do you get... more crap about how the Knicks stink... why even watch this team cuz they've never won anything crap?

orangeblob - just because Berman draws a check does not certify his value as a sports journalist covering Knicks basketball. Far from it. The unflinching critique is based on his free access to information, games, practices, players and administration. He probably even has access to the Knicks digital library room where he could break down tape if he were motivated to go beyond personal comments based on personal bias.

It is Berman's opportunity to be great at his job and he does it poorly.

Does he demonstrate the professional excellence in writing that would qualify him to criticize any basketball player who fails to live up to expectations?

all true, i'm not a fan of big marc at all, but can it also be said that his writing style and subject is influenced by his responsibility, as a paid writer, to generate views, hits, etc.,.

Just curious orangeblob, where would you grade out Berman on the 1-10 scale, (with 10 being the highest) on style, content, entertainment value, relevance and originality being the criteria?

berman, graded, by the blob:

style..........5, he is nothing spectacular but obviously an above average writer
content........1, his content, subject matter, is highly suspect, sensational
ent. value.....1, but this depends if you are entertained by his stupid marbury posts; i am not.
relevance......2, he gets a two here only because his writing always, at the least, mentions the Knicks.
originality....1, for the above reasons
