Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, right center, intervened after Coach Pini Gershon, left center, of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was ejected for two technical fouls in an exhibition against the Knicks.

I always said to the guys, I said..."man, we need a Rabbi".

But all jokes aside, the Rabbi was right...it's a peaceful game, benefiting a charity, how can you eject a coach for that?? Absurd.

B/c the coach had a pissy attitude towards the refs. You come to the States to play NBA bball, then you follow NBA rules. He deserved what he had coming. Just b/c he's a very good international coach doesn't mean he gets treated like the Pope. Based on his quotes, he sounds like he expected that treatment. He's too arrogant.

I understad what you're saying, but it was a charity game. Not even listed in the Yahoo boxscores for Sunday.

The refs could have just ignored him, no one would have remembered his antics. He is just an animated guy, he was having fun out there, he is like a god in European coaching...I bet he didn't think these ruffians would have the gall to eject him from a charity game.

And you know what, when a RABBI comes onto the court you know something is up. When will humanity, when will our values triumph over beurocracy??

Charity game or not a ref should not have to accept being berated. You wouldn't accept it, so why should they. If it was a charity game and not important than why go after the refs??? A game is a game. The rules are the same.

I disagree. A charity game should be like a Ref Roast, where you get to say anything you want about the refs.

I think the refs overracted. So what if he was berating them? Maccabi is a joke compared to nba level competition. He was yelling at the refs to save face and maintain some type of pride while his team was getting trounced by a very mediocre Knicks club. What an overreaction, what a failure of common sense.

Edit: that's not to say that MTA is weak, they're a superb squad for the league they play in. But come on.

The refs called that game way too tight for a charity jumpoff, but the coach acted like a fool and deserved to bounce. Prolly cultural differences or something. As long as the ref doesn't get his ass wooped, decorum is still maintained in his eyes.

So what you are saying is that when the Knicks play the Lakers, D'Antoni should be allowed to yell at the refs and they should just take it.

all I'm sayin' is, it was a game that MTA never had a hope in winning..or even coming close. I'm just saying you let a man save face, not kick him out, and esecialy not out of a charity game. the refs could have shown more tact.

Right, exactly Like the Lakers vs. Knicks.

I'm sorry you guys are lunatics. If this was a game where everyone was joking around on the court then yes I agree no way you give the guy a tech let alone throw him out. But this was a serious game. With heated players. Yelling at officials etc. No man, is going to take that no matter what the scenario. Funny thing is, these guys are trained. You would crack before they did. And yet you judge.

Former Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball executive Moni Fanan hanged himself at home on Monday. He was 63-years-old.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the former Maccabi chairman for nearly an hour before he was declared dead.

Fanan managed the high-profile basketball club for 16 years and won 15 league titles before stepping down a year ago amid clashes with other team officials.

That's nuts. RIP is right even though it was self mortality.

Back to the topic: This may "just" be an exhibition game, but a couple of things. This was a HUGE deal to team MTA. They wanted the exposure and they wanted to show off that they are a serious team, TO THE WORLD. Not just the Knicks and the rest of the NBA. In a sense, as a result, this was more than an exhibition game. So when the coach lost his composure like that, he was not only disrespecting the refs, but his own team and himself. He made all parties look bad. The Knicks players thought it was downright silly, based on their reactions. While Nate and Duhon were going there to see what's going on, the rest of the Knicks were laughing, and then realized it was getting ridiculous.

I'm sorry, but this isn't the refs fault. When you make a fool of yourself and other people, you can't expect others to do favors for you. He wasn't exactly doing a good Bobby Knight impression. Bobby Knight has been known to yell and throw chairs, but overall, he's 10X more composed and he would have never placed himself before his team. Never. That coach did.

In college basketball do college coaches get a special grace period to yell at the refs during preseason or those exhibition games against Marathon Oil, Athletes in Action etc. No these games don't count and are preseason "exhibition games" but still have the same rules as the regular season.
