We all love to post pics of ourselves partying it up looking fabulous with our fabulous friends & living a fabulous life, but when you break down the masks we all portray on social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace, Friendster or whatever else is out there these days, we all have the same problems, we all have the same insecurities, we're all searching for the same fulfillment in our otherwise boring lives, otherwise we wouldn't be on these sites to begin with.
Funny when you stop & think about it, after all the drunken nights of partying & hooking up with this person or that person, have you ever really felt happy? I'm not talking about the fleeting kind that fades away right after you sober up or get bored with something or someone, but real, true happiness that cuts to your core & gives you inner peace? It's hard to find. It's easy to think that once you find that happiness you never wanna let it go, but real true happiness doesn't leave you. It's already inside you. It's the kind of happiness every parent feels when they look at their newborn kids, the kind you feel when you make someone you love smile, the kind that motivates you to strive for excellence in your life. You can't find that type of happiness at the clubs, inside a bottle or on Facebook. Those are just time killers to occupy our time cuz we have nothing else better to do.
Of course, we all need a release every now & again. Nothing wrong with letting loose sometimes because we're all human afterall, but you have to look at the big picture. If we think by living life just to fulfill all our selfish desires & wants is gonna bring us happiness, we'll never find it. We need to be looking for that purpose in life that extends beyond all the temporary stress relief we engage in to drive us everyday. Leading that purpose filled life is what's gonna make us happy in the long run.
I break it down like this - all we can really do is treat others the way we want to be treated, honor & respect the ones we love, & most importantly, respect ourselves enough not to sacrifice those values just to please other people. That's a trap you can easily fall into if your focus is on portraying those masks rather than on finding real contentment in your life, finding that purpose. If you're searching for happiness from external things or fleeting experiences, you're probably searching in the wrong places. Real happiness comes from within, it comes from leading a purpose filled life. So stay true to yourself & don't fall into that trap by focusing on portraying those masks. Focus instead on finding that purpose in life. God help me find that purpose and I hope you all find it too.
