NFL’s Scott Fujita Speaks Out for Gay Rights

http://www.edgeofsports.com/2009-10-06-460/index.html

I thought this was a good interview and Scott Fujita came across as a very intelligent well spoken individual.

good stuff andrew. here's the opposite side of the coin that shows how far we (the world) really are still in equality for all.

French gay soccer team snubbed by Muslim team

Published: Yesterday

PARIS (AP) - A French gay soccer team says its members were victims of homophobia when a team of Muslim players refused to play a match against them.

The Paris Foot Gay team says Tuesday it received an e-mail from the Creteil Bebel club canceling a match scheduled for last Sunday.

"Because of the principles of our team, which is a team of devout Muslims, we can't play against you," the e-mail said, according to Paris Foot Gay. The e-mail received Saturday said, "Our convictions are much more important than a simple football match."

Paris Foot Gay said in a statement that it asked the amateur league to sanction Creteil Bebel.

Zahir Belgarbi, identified as a spokesman for Creteil Bebel, told France-Info radio he apologized if "anyone felt upset or hurt."

But what about the right of the Muslim team to not associate with them? Where is that right lost in this?

i understand the point you are trying to make, but still disagree. when it comes to religious preferences, i cannot get into their minds, but it seems to me that this is pretty trivial as it relates to playing a harmless soccer game. maybe they didnt want to take a chance at getting beat by a bunch of guys who, as they interpret their religeon claims, are inferior.

i have plenty of devout muslim friends and by no means does being a muslim mean you are anti gay. that is just not written in the Qur'an....as everything, interpretation of it is what people hang their hats on. to stretch it for analogy purposes, is it ok for the taliban to bomb people b/c their interpretation of their religeon says its ok? again, the qur'an is one of the most peaceful doctrines written from a religeous perspective so i still think it shoddy at best the stance this soccer team is taking and we are in 2010 almost not 1010....people need to get a grip on reality.

That's why you disagree, but by calling Creteil Bebel's beliefs trivial and then assuming they don't want to 'get beat by a bunch of gay guys', aren't you being just as 'wrong'-- according to your own arguments-- in your views of the religious team?

edit: basically, we're saying it's Bad to discriminate against someone's beliefs, and also that it is Bad to discriminate against someone's sexual preference. Where the line between belief and sexual preference is blurred, I am not sure, but it is true that people can be discriminated against because of both of those things....so, what gives the gay group precedence in their quest against discrimination over that of Creteil Bebel's quest against discrimination?

also, citing the way they 'interpret' their religion is equivalent to disparaging an entire religion, because each unique religion is by default an 'interpretation' of something in that group's eyes. what makes one sect of Muslims more correct or more worthy than others?

never said that. please show me where i said that?

i really dont understand the rest of your post so im gonna move on. thanks for trying though.

i will leave you with this though - the intent of my post was to state that from what i have been told by friends of mine who are devout muslims and deeply religeous, is that the qur'an supports the EXACT opposite of what this team is doing. the qur'an teaches love for all people. as with anything, interpretation can be different from person to person. i cannot argue with someone's interpretation over their religeous beliefs, i can only agree or disagree based on how i feel about it.

I mean, I didn't mean to start nuffin' nor pass any judgements on either group, but it's worth looking at I think.
