Jax still wants out; Monta drops bomb

Warriors media day got really entertaining once Stephen Jackson took his seat, playfully calling the throng of media “vultures.” If you thought he was going to back off his statements about wanting to be traded, you were wrong.

Jackson stood by them, fairly emphatically, all but overtly questioning the Warriors desire to win. He cited the constant dismantling of the organization that upset Dallas as the primary reason for his discontent.
He didn’t say he wanted out again because he didn’t want to get slapped with another $25,000 fine from the NBA. But he did say he sticks by his earlier comments, his relationship with President Bobby Rowell has changed, and he stands by his statements because “he wants to win.”

Then Monta came out. He was usually dismissive and, thus, boring until he was asked if he could see himself and rookie guard Stephen Curry sharing the backcourt.

“I can’t.”

Why not?

“‘Cause I can’t.”

But why not? Too small?

“I just can’t. I can’t. Can’t win that way.”

Monta went on to say if coach Don Nelson - who has been saying all offseason he wants to play them together, is hoping to re-create the Ellis-Baron Davis tandem, it ain’t happening because, and I am summarizing here, Curry ain’t Baron. He doesn’t have Baron’s experience and size to make it a productive backcourt.

Curry said he could see the two playing together, but it depends on the matchups, intimating he believes there are circumstances the pairing wouldn’t work. But Nellie said Friday that as of right now, four of the starters are set: Jax, Ellis, Randolph, Biedrins. That leaves two most-likely
options: 1) start Curry in the backcourt with Monta; 2) start Azubuike and move Jax to SG, and let Curry back up Monta.

Option 1 is a major concession on the defensive end. Option 2 leaves Curry in a limited roll (as Monta figures to play a boatload of minutes), which is hardly what Nellie has been suggesting since drafting Curry. We also now now starting Curry won’t be a well-received
strategy by the franchise player, which opens the door to more discontent.

What’s funny, Monta said he thought everyone was now on the same page. Nelson and Riley went to visit him in Memphis in June to accomplish that. And before camp starts, the coach
and the star player are already disagreeing on philosophy?

maybe we can trade curries straight up. S for E.

they'd have to compensate us for the extra 200 lbs we'd be giving them.

This could get very interesting....if we were adding salary that is. Ellis or Jackson would improve the talent level on this team by a large margin

what a joke that team is

why do they even need more offense?

They needed a player who leans towards a defensively focused wing or PG.

Trading down to get T Williams, or grabbing Marquis Daniels would have made more sense.

I don't think even Don Nelson is stupid enough to deal Curry just because Monta Ellis doesn't think it will work. Man Monta has went from darling to Marbury Jr. in a span of one year. Not too good.

Ellis' stature is debatable, but its not like duke is lying here. LOL at a Ellis/Curry defensive backcourt. Them munchkins are gonna get their lunch eaten on a nightly basis.

... and neither of them is a true PG. Ellis is a hybrid scoring guard, and from what I saw of Curry in SL, he seems to feel more comfortable being a SG than running a team from the point.

Unless the Amare/Curry trade rumor was legit, I don't know what Nelson was thinking when he picked Curry.

Ironic that the two teams whose picks dictated our choice at #8, Minny and GS, may have screwed themselves up with their respective decisions.

So it goes.

The whole Ellis interview:

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2009/09/28/monta-ellis-on-pairing-with-stephen-curry-we-cant-not-going-to-win-that-way/

Ellis might be right about playing with Curry--they'll probably loose more games and, nope, Curry's not going to be Baron Davis--but Ellis might have other problems with the team, like, say, Nelson. Parts of that interview are whack, esp. if Ellis is da franchise playa.

Q: When Riley and Nelson visited you, did they tell you they wouldn’t draft a guard similar to you?

ELLIS: I don’t remember.

Q: Would you have wanted them to tell you that—or not to draft a similar guard?

ELLIS: To be honest with you, I don’t feel like my job is in jeopardy at all. I don’t feel that my position, my minutes, nothing are going to be taken. Because at the end of the day, I’m still going to be Monta Ellis. I’m still going to be the franchise player. And I’m still going to go out there and give you 20 points a night. I’m not worrying about that. I’m not.

***

Q: Nelson said he was making you a captain. Did he tell you that and what do you think of it?

ELLIS: (Chuckles) I don’t even know. What’s different in being a captain?

Q: I don’t know.

ELLIS: Exactly. I don’t know. It’s just a title to me.

Q: Have you talked to Nelson about your feelings on playing with Curry?

ELLIS: I don’t know what to expect. Just going into training camp positive.

Wow. This dude sounds like a real clown. After how he deceived the organization the way he did, just shut your mouth, you know? Franchise player?? Hardly. What franchise player would ever talk like that about the possibility of being named captain? That's a honor it's sounds like he doesn't deserve..

Ellis is the captain and he talks like this? Sounds like a bonehead. I hope Curry does not get poisoned playing over in GS. Nellie is screwing up another city! Again!

G State should have voided Ellis' deal after his moped accident.

Like I said.. in the last year, year and a half, this guy has seriously turned from a great find into Stephon Marbury Jr. What an *******, he's not even that good.
