Just read that he signed a non-guaranteed deal to go play with the Rockets.

Now I heard he's a bit of a headcase (although it looks like it just boils down to the guy wanting to play) but this kid's got a lot of talent. Proven talent at the NBA level. When he's gotten steady PT he's proven to be a damn fine little scorer. And it looks like he signed for peanuts here. Sorry fellas, no offense to Gabe Pruitt, Sun Yue, Warren Carter, Chris Hunter, Joe Crawford or Carl Landry's little brother, but man - I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I just don't see how we didn't take a chance on guys like Carney or McCants for the amount of money they got over these other guys we clearly settled for. I understand some of the guys we've brought in are nothing more than practice players & training camp fodder and you need that but a few of these guys will wind up making the team. Now for the ones that do (even Yue who looks to be the most promising of the lot), explain to me how they're better players than Carney and especially McCants? I don't get it. We had quite a few opportunities to upgrade our depth at the 2 spot this off-season and passed. I'm ready to roll with what we got, but I'm a little ticked we didn't get involved with some of the higher-end discount talent that was out there (and in my view there was even better comparable talent available than what we brought in). I understand some might think we have enough already with guys like Chandler, Nate, Gallo - and I get that, I want those guys to see a lot of PT too - but I just feel you gotta at least inquire on higher end talent like this before you settle for the guys we settled for. God forbid Chandler ever goes down with an injury this season, who would you rather have to fill in, Gabe Pruitt, Joe Crawford or Rashad McCants? Carney and McCants wound up signing similar deals to the ones we gave to much less talented players. Even if these guys didn't play much this year, you'd think the big picture would seem attractive & inviting -- a situation that looks a little crowded now but could become a great opportunity next year when we'll have open roster spots and PT available for them to possibly play with a big FA under a player's coach like MDA. Not a big deal (looks like a lot of these guys got 1-yr. deals, so the same guys should be available next year at this time) but I think it's a little bit of an issue.

I'm sorry but McCants is garbage. This guy would make Crawford seem efficient. We wouldn't want or need him on this team. Trust me.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

McCants is a solid player. He has the Morris Almond problem though of not being able to do much else other than shoot. He is a bit undersized for a SG and cannot score at a high enough efficiency to be given major minutes. He is a good 7th or 8th man off the bench to give your second unit offensive punch. As for us, we have enough players that are only average on defense and we have plenty of shooters. We need a backup SG who can run the point some and play above-average defense. THat is what we lack.

MCcants has a history of not being a good locker room presence. Even in college he was an *******.

I think a guy like that does better going to a more established team with leadership already built in. You get in line and do your job or get called out for it. A young team like the knicks are still finding there way. It can handle Coo Coo for cocoa puffs Nay Nate but no tolerance for a scowel type diva which McCants kind of is.

Fine, your right talent wise that those are good players. I'll use JR SMith as an example. Him and Melo were not the best characters on the team but bring in a Billups type Alpha player and they all get in line and mature quickly.

Rockets are doing with Yao like what the knicks did with Ewing. Bring high ceiling guys in and see what sticks. McGrady was a nice try as was Artest.

McCants Can't!

He was not signed to camp cuz his abdominal injury won't allow him to earn a spot on the roster.

Didn't even realize he was hurt. How severe is the injury?
