I can't believe how much actual jail time he got--it's a miscarriage of justice and common sense. I think if you have no criminal history--you get a serious slap on the hand for this--maybe three months in jail at worst--2 years is inhumane. I don't like the way Bloomberg lobbied on this as well--that was grandstanding and had an aura of elitism and possibly racism. If it was Tom Brady would he get 24 months?

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Obama should pardon him after 3 months. This has really gone under the radar--this is just a severe severe sentence. He did lose 15mm $ bucks. Is 2 years and all that money worthy sentence? Is this Salem Mass? Where is the common sense?

Damn Briggs! You banging a black chick now or something? This Al Sharpton, social activist swag that you got is SEBSTAR APPROVED in a major way!

And you're right. Even though NY has some really draconian gun laws, and Plexiglass was an absolute idiot for carrying a loaded hot piece into a club, do you really see a Tom Brady spending his prime years in prison off of a gun charge where nobody was injured except the defendant in question? No way America would let that happen.

from the begining, all the way to the mayor's office, there was EXTREME pressure to make an example out of this incident and bloomberg wanted to show no celebrity/athlete is above the law. you can look at it w half full glasses and say he could have gotten a minimum 3 1/2 yr sentence but that was reduced to 2 yrs with release in 20 months for good behavior.

this was rigged from the beginning. i dont know where i stand on the issue, but i dont see it so much as a racial issue - unless this is racism against celebrities.

seb - i hear ya w the brady analogy, but you gotta pick a more bad ass white boy to use as an example. brady is richie cunningham clean - he wouldnt even walk into a club with a water pistol. try your analogy with someone like josh hamilton, who's got that white trash element to him, and do you think he would have faired better? not making judgements, just asking the question.

This reeks of politics. Bottomline is the NY system is hard on gun related offenses. Plax was going to get hit hard because Bloomberg doesn't want NYC to seem like it's LA where the stars get two days in prison because of their status. I think this is one of those situations where they could've used his status in a positive way. Want to be tough, give him 6 months and 5,000 hours of community service where he can talk to kids about why everyone thinks he's a dumb POS that made an ass out of himself and how carrying wasn't worth it. And if he felt unsafe he shouldn't have put himself in a position to feel unsafe to begin with. Kids carry guns when they do not have a positive present influence. Plax caught the gamewinning TD in the biggest upset in Super Bowl history recently... I think his societal position could have done immense good here. It's not as though he's some Lindsay Lohan like hasbeen that has a BAC of .823 and a trash bag full of blow riding shotgun, that got a 36 hour slap on the wrist.

J,

Im with you on all points and while its a harsh "ass" sentance, its not the 3.5-5 years as per the law, and he really did cut perhaps the best deal.

If it were Texas, he would not be in jail. I kind of agree that the mayor was all over it cuz he did not want to appear to cater to Celebs. And yeah, Tom Brady, or Wayne Brady don't go to clubs with guns.

Speaking of "Brady", How about the Brady Center to prevent gun violence. http://www.bradycenter.org/

Plax made a good appeal and his reason for carrying was that a team mate who lived near by was robbed at gun point in his house. But if thats the case, and its a good one, why go to NYC? Does he live with his wife and child? Why take it in the club?

I think the Mayor jumped on this big to perhaps send a message and I think its effective. If that gun fired into anyone else Placio would be doing some serious time.

The PRegnant wife doese tug at my heart strings but I think she got pregnant after the incident. Loving your child and pregnant wife also means not breaking the law. And while Clubbing is not a bad thing, good things for your wife and child generally don't happen in them. If you love your wife keep aa safety on. If you love your wife keep it in a holster if you must be stupid and carry it. If you love your d ick keep it safe!

Plax is not a victim and should not portrayed as one. NY laws are a bit draconian but one need only read the signs as you enter into it. NO GUNS!

This guy was high maintanence for years and a off field bonehead. And when Josh Hamilton breaks the law he too should be punished accordingly. I too am tired of celebs getting off.

In 2006 guns murdered 10,177 in the USA! 18 in Austria, 27 in Australia, 59 in England & Wales, 60 in Spain, 190 in Canada, and 194 in Germany. We are way out of line!

everyone (even nalod) breaks laws routinely; as one congressman put it living within the law in the u.s. is impossible because there are laws about everything. what makes this law that plax broke so special its worth three years of him being away from him family in jail... lets get real. the arguement what-if he shot someone else instead of himself is silly. to me its like saying you should get time in jail for speeding instead of a ticket because you could of hit someone while you were speeding.

I hate Plaxico since he ruined the Giants season last year, but 2 years is pretty ridiculous for someone with no prior record. And yes, Bloombergs grandstanding cemented the fact that he was going to goto jail no matter what, which is bad news going forward for anyone who simply seeks justice.

That's why people have to be careful when they vote. Does Mayor Bloomberg relate with the average human being? No way. Is *intent* measured here--were facts like he had a permit[albeit expired] for a handgun in a State of the union taken into account? Let's see someone step up and get this guy out in 3 months. They took a college graduate with no criminal history away from his JOB and family which includes a pregnant wife because he made a mistake with no proven intent to cause harm to others for TWO YEARS. It's an outrage. 3months--I think we all can live with that two years is an outrage.

It's tough to find an honest politician who is fair these days. It's all about selling an image to the press and public, while doing whatever they want privately. Plax was an easy target because he was pretty much a prima donna. So it was like lets bring this arrogant prick to the eart. And the crowd shouted 'yea'. I think the race card is played way too much without evidence. Racism is a horrible thing and it cheapens it the way its tossed around here.

Carrying a loaded firearm in public is a C felony. 20 months seems appropiate for the crime. You guys are crazy when you say its too much. This guy was at a club. Maybe you would feel different if you bumped into him at 4 AM after hes been drinking all night and he shoves a Glock in your face. I dont know about you guys but im not in the habit if carrying unlicensed firearms while I get tanked. Burress gets what everybody else gets. 20 months is standard and it should be more.
