Clips Like Their Team: Despite the current furor around the "sign-and-trade possibilities" around Ramon Sessions and the Los Angeles Clippers, the word from HOOPSWORLD's Eric Pincus' sources in and around the Clippers is they are not actively looking for a deal. If Sessions falls into their lap for cheap, they'll do a deal, but they aren't going to go out of their way to make a deal happen. Reportedly, $5 million per season is richer than they'd like to spend.
Again, Sessions may end up with the Clippers – and it's more likely if the New York Knicks decide they are no longer interested – but there doesn't seem to be a clear option in a sign-and-trade deal. They don't have a history of trading first-round picks and they like their team as it is, so they don't want to trade any talent the Bucks might be willing to spend money on.
Look over the Clippers contracts… In the price range that has been rumored the Clips have Eric Gordon (not going to happen), Craig Smith (they like him), Sebastian Telfair (Bucks probably not interested in the two years), Ricky Davis (no interest), and Al Thornton (not going to happen).
If the cost of Sessions drops significantly the Clippers may decide to spend some of their MLE money on him, but keep in mind they like the fact they currently only have $39 million committed for 2010-11 and they are reportedly looking to make a free agency splash. Signing Sessions would impact that, though the argument could be made they could sign him and trade Baron Davis.
But again, the Clippers seem pretty happy with the roster they have, so they aren't going to sign a player with the plan that it would trigger additional moves.
