Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley(notes) checked into an unidentified Houston rehabilitation hospital over the weekend, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Sources said the Heat encouraged Beasley to check into the facility to address possible substance and psychological issues. He is expected to spend time with former NBA player and coach John Lucas(notes), who is renown for his success in working with troubled players.

When reached Monday morning, Miami Heat spokesman Tim Donovan declined comment. An NBA spokesman also declined comment.

Beasley’s admission comes after a handful of disturbing Twitter posts were attributed to him on Friday afternoon.

“Y do I feel like the whole world is against me…I can’t win for losin,” Beasley wrote.

“Feelin like it’s not worth livin!!!!!!! I’m done.”

Beasley’s frustration had been born out of a posed Internet photo on his personal Twitter page. In the photo, Beasley showed off on his back while two plastic baggies could be seen on a table in the background. Some people have speculated on the bags’ contents, even though the clarity of the photo makes it difficult to determine. After the photo became a fast-moving Internet story, Beasley posted the messages on his Twitter account before the page was shut down on Saturday night.

Even before the Heat made him the No. 2 pick after Derrick Rose(notes) in the 2008 draft, Beasley has been a target of criticism inside and outside the organization for his immaturity. From team president Pat Riley to superstar Dwyane Wade(notes), the Heat have been frustrated with Beasley’s clownish attitude and personal decisions.

The NBA fined Beasley $50,000 for being in a room where marijuana was found at the NBA’s rookie symposium last summer. Beasley had slipped out the door when security officials arrived on the scene, leaving Mario Chalmers(notes) and Darrell Arthur(notes) to face punishment alone. Riley later found out Beasley had been in the room and forced him to confess to league officials. So far this summer, Miami had been unwilling to include Beasley in trade talks with the Utah Jazz for Carlos Boozer(notes).

Beasley had a solid rookie season for Miami, averaging 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.

I'd rather see that at this age for him than later on in his career (think Vin Baker).

So hopefully this sorts him out and he can go on to reach his great potential.

Unbelievable that this kind of thing could be happening to him as such a young age, but as some have said- better to deal with it early on.

As for trading him, his value will at a low point- the Heat should see how his rehab plays out and act accordingly, since he still has a great upside.

The fact that there was a photo and something on Twitter may have been a "cry for help," or maybe the guy is just plain stupid, and does not understand that actions have consequences. I wonder if he was confronted by people who pushed him into admitting himself? I can't see a "professional kid" like Beasley doing admitting himself into rehap without some major pushing by other folks.

Lottery picks like this one are tough. There were signs this kid had an aloof personality before the draft but GM's are too scared not to draft that kind of talent.

Maybe the best thing is trade down for blue chip talent. But like I said, its tough to pass on talent. This kid busts he sets Miami back a lot.

To be fair, he is under a lot of pressure and these kids don't always understand the responsabilty it takes to be a pro.

In this case, let him play in Europe or in college and maybe this crap comes to the surface.

This is why the NBA would like the kids coming out at age 20. More opportinities for them to show there stripes!

Pressure, Depression, self esteem are all tough. This kid is melting like Marbury.

I wish the kid well! He is too young and too talented to not enjoy his career.

Looks like weed and 7up!

Why would an athlete drink that crap? I understand the weed, but 7up? 7up mess you up more than weed!

SOme tats look good. That is just ugly. WHats with the eye glasses?

He might be depressed cuz he realized he like millions who tat themselves regret it.
Its supercool when your 20, but when your old and broke its gonna be a reminder of what a dumb ass he was.

Team USA don't want anypart of this kid. He never got the invite to train with them and its really bugging him. This I read a few weeks back.

INvest in tatoo removal. Its a huge business.

Heat would be crazy to trade him at this point. Work with the kid and he'll come through. He is young and just needs some guidance.

Next summer he gonna want his extension. Franchise talent with an immature undeveloped persona. Im sorry, these kids go early for the money and pressure cuz everyone is pushing them out the door, but sometimes they are not mature enough.

Not every kid is mature like Lebron!

Young kid 20 years old---he's got to follow a strict regimen of not touching booze or weed under any circumstance. I think good healthy living with a good diet--some online courses to take car of some free time and work towards a degree of any kind as a goal. You have to find a balance here--he is a kid and you don't want to take things kids do away from him--but with his own words he should not be a drinker or a guy who smokes weed because he seems quite fragile right now and does not need mind altering products. Basketball Online Courses Girls weight lifting good diet picking good friends to be with and not hanging out in bad neighborhoods even if thats where you came from. Figure what he likes to do in terms of other hobbies and just stay away from anything negative. Im not a believer in anti-depression meds unless its a drastic case and I dont think he is. He needs discipline and structure with reason for someone 20 but enough to make sure he is on the right track.
he might need some kind of big brother system--someone who is 278-29-30 who has been there yet not to old to help mentor. I would even recommend after he gets his life back in order to get rid of these tattoos--I dont want to get started there but nothing good comes from putting tattoos on you. If you want to draw--find some crayons and a piece of paper--if he likes art--visit a museum

He's not the brightest bulb is he. The ridiculous tattoo and being upset over people's criticism of it after you post it on the internet notwithstanding: check the baggies near his soda bottle. Yeah, that's not aspirin, and apparently he's also upset over people pointing that out as well. Hey, nobody told you to get a dumbass tattoo and post a picture on the internet of it and your drug habit in plain sight.

He's also not the first one in the world to be depressed and criticized. Deal with it.

Nobody wants to shower a multi-millionaire athlete with pity especially when they act like morons and then cry about the criticism it brings. He'll have to deal with that too.

Talking about life not being worth living and saying you're done with life on twitter isn't going to get you anywhere.

If he's going to end up being a mix of Eddy Curry and Vin Baker and Shawn Kemp and Ricky Williams before he ever does anything to warrant a big contract then them's the breaks.

c'mon guys. psychological problems happen to anybody. and to most people at some point in life. his millions, his talent, his fame mean less than zero in the face of whatever he may be going through if he's posting those pics and and those statements about feeling like life's not worth living. again, lucas is a very cool dude who got through some massive demons in life and is dedicated to helping others, especially pro ballers, through theirs, so i'm glad the kid's hooked in with him.

I notice he has red and blue walls and stuff, this could be playing a role in his already unstable mindset. red gets you hyped up, even if you don't realize it, and he goes all haywire, but then the blue trips him up, and he doesn't now what to do.
