This must mean we're getting rid of Nate.
Madsen is most likely being pursued to fill the "dancing in the locker room" void.

Adding more of a veteran presence is important but never at the expense of adding youth and talent - not when you're rebuilding. I'd rather offer a contract to Brandon Costner. 6'9", 230 lbs., hybrid 3/4 that can play inside and out. This guy torched us in one summer league game for 21 pts. Has the type of skill set for a big man that's right up D'Antoni's alley -- lefty that can shoot 3s, post up, handle it well... Very talented. Reminds me of a combination of Lawrence Funderburke and Rodney Rodgers. Kind of a poor man's Michael Beasley... If they want another big, they should go get a guy like this with nice upside. They'd still have enough of a veteran presence on that team with Harrington, Duhon and Hughes to help get them through the year..

No links to be found- this is not worth anyone's time without a link to a legit source, and as far as I know, there are none which back this rumor.

This may have been a RealGM spoof thread by a bored poster:

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=939148&start=0

Eventually the OP responds to a question about the validity of the story with:
It's a mixture of fact, fiction, and speculation.

I hope the quality of research Mr. Briggs does on his stock picks is better and more extensive than the effort he made to verify the truth of a rumor he saw fit make into a thread.

Clippers Waive Mark Madsen

Aug 21, 2009 6:21 PM EST
The Los Angeles Clippers today waived forward Mark Madsen.

Madsen was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 22nd along with Sebastian Telfair and Craig Smith in exchange for Quentin Richardson.

The New York Knicks plan to workout Madsen on Tuesday with the thinking being he could shore up both the center and power forward positions, and provide insurance in the event the Knicks are unable to come to terms with restricted free agent David Lee.

"Mark could provide that blue collar veteran presence that every team needs," said Knicks president Donnie Walsh. "He's the kind of hard worker any coach would want coming off the bench. It's in our best interest to take a look and see if there's a fit," Walsh added.

Maybe you should do more than just look at RealGM topics to try and get your info there bud. Everything written there besides Madsen getting waived was made up by the poster in the topic. You fail.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

If Walsh will not find enough players in NBA to fill Knicks 2009/2010 season training camp, he will need to look in NBDL and than at NYC playgrounds.
We need 15 people and we have no plan to win antyhing this year. So who cares what their names will be.

Somebody, by the name of KNEMESIS, did... and admitted it later in the thread.

The ability to "cut and paste" does not have to go hand in hand with a cessation of both common sense and due dilligence.

Joseph Stalin, hinting at how easy it is to control the "truth," once said that "paper will accept anything that is written on it." Same is true on the "internets," unfortunately.

Who knows, maybe Walsh will think about Madsen as a potential cheerleader on the bench at some point this summer, but there are no legit sources so far which link Madsen to the Knicks- only the threads on RealGM and UK.

Speaking of Brandon Costner, Ben McCauley is another undrafted NC State big man I'd consider signing if I were Donnie. 6'10", 240 lbs. A truer big man than Costner, he's pretty skilled in the pivot with good footwork. Plays the game hard and competes. Decent moves with his back to the basket and he can rebound the ball fairly well. His solid post play actually allowed Costner the freedom to roam around on the perimeter and shoot a lot of jumpers. Another young player with upside that would be a much better move for us than Mark Madsen. Played well for the Lakers during the Vegas summer league, averaging almost 12 and 8. His last game against the Raptors, he went for 24 and 15 and showed a little bit of everything in that game including a nice perimeter touch from deep that I didn't even know he had... I mean what's Mark Madsen supposed to show a guy like Jordan Hill during the course of the season anyway? Where all the best restaurants are while on the road? I guess I could see bringing in a guy like Kidd or a Grant Hill to mentor some of the younger guys, but come on man, those guys can still play. They had distinguished careers, both of them. Either guy would also make the team fairly attractive for a 2010 or 2011 FA. But Mark Madsen?? Guy's a stiff. Forget has-been, this guy's a never-was...

I mean what makes more sense for us at this stage - signing a poor man's Thaddeus Young (Costner) or a poor man's Kevin Love (McCauley), two young guys that could grow with the team and possibly have an impact for years to come or Mark Madsen??? Makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Until we're close enough to winning anything, I'm holding off on adding that "veteran presence" just for the sake of having one. For now I say build this thing up like the Atlanta Hawks or the Golden State Warriors - continue to amass young talent...

Haha, I saw the thread title and thought BRIGGS was telling a joke...I guess not.

We're better off giving minutes to Hill than bringing Madsen on.

Never too soon to groom that goofy over achieving white dude that has personality to be a head coach one day.

I think we already have (had) the market covered on lanky White men with little to no basketball skills. See: Dudley, Lee, Knight, Longley, those other White guys, etc.,..
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.
