So I am planning a trip out to Portland and Northern California in September - will be out there for about 2 weeks, probably spend 1 in Cali and 1 in Oregon. Anyone have any recommendations for things to do/see or places to stay?

I am flying in to Portland and driving down to Cali, then back to Portland.

Yeah, I would agree, ride a bike while you're there. Take a cross-bow with you in case you see any wild game.

Are you going to drive the coast? (Rt 101 in Oregon, Rt 1 in California). That's a nice drive. There's definitely redwood tree preserves in that area that might be interesting, if you're into trees.

yea, definitely stick to the coast when driving. if soft drugs are your thing (weed, mushrooms), humboldt county is notorious for such a scene. i've personally never been there but thats what i hear living down in santa barbara. not really sure what else is up there besides a ton of good hiking and national parks.

Go to Napa Valley like Jim suggested and get your wine tasting on...this is especially bomb if you have a female with you. They get moist off of that shyt.

If you go to San Fran, prepare to be disappointed if you are a NY'ker. San Fran has all the dirty, unattractive aspects of NY without one-thirtieth of the culture and energy of the streets. If you must experience, drive on the Golden Gate bridge (really nice) and hit Fishermans Warf for some grub. Catching a Giants game is an option. Pac Bell is a great park.

A better alternative is Berkeley. There is plenty of culture and shyt going on. Good places to eat and obviously less self-important. Just park by Cal University and go walking. Will pick up some interesting clothes, see some decent exhibits, and grab some good food among other things.

If you're feeling adventurous, go to Oakland. Check out an A's game...the tickets are cheap as hell and since nobody goes you can pretty much grab any seat in the park. Now you have to be CAREFUL...only go to the Lake Merritt section of Oaktown if you want to explore the city. Thats a great, safe area. Go anywhere else you're liable to get your ass shot.

Dont need to go to Humbolt to get high. All Nor Cal weed comes from Humbolt for the most part so you can just grab a sac anywhere and keep it moving. Humbolt is Not worth your time, IMO.
