I on my way to work but had to make a stop. Was cutting thru a neighborhood of mixed middle class. Blacks and whites, jews and gentiles, Asians and Indians.....and Mrs. Po Po pulls me over, lights a flashing.

Im driving my 2 year old Teutonic love sled. Its very shiney BTW.

Black women cop. She got her hand near her pistol. I open all my windows and put my hands on the wheel. She asks if I knew why im getting pulled? I wanted to say "Cuz im speeding and rolled thru the stop sign?) She wants my License and Reggie. License is in my brief case behind my seat and I ask her if it would be ok. I want her at ease cuz she got a gun and I don't. My Reggie is out of date. Like 6 mos out of date. She Asks if I know this. I respectively said no. Its 5:30am. Im cutting out early so I went early to my office.

She told me dhr pulled me cuz I rolled thru the stop sign and my car was suspisious looking. She wrote me for the expired Reggie and said she appreciated my "way" so she let me off on the stop sign violation. I'll get my reggie taken care of and I'll go take care of the ticket which they will let me slide if I show I took care of it.

Lesson:

I did not argue with her or try to talk my way out of it. What I did I would do with any cop, white or black. They are nervous when they approach a vehicle and I showed respect not for her authority, but for the job she has to do. She is entitled to enforce the laws. That is her job.

Did I have do what I did? No, but I did not take it personal. I rolled thru the sign and maybe 10 other cops don't pull me for that. I did not ask her what suspicious looking meant. Maybe if she wrote me up for everything I would ask her but she technically let me slid. For that I was grateful.

I suppose if I got all indignant about getting pulled, pulled by a women, and did the white man pulled by a BLACK women thing and showed it all im sure her juice card would have swelled and she would have enjoyed her authority on me. Im sure if I yelled at her "do you know who I am"? and got out of the car she would have cracked my head open. Instead she was nothing but professional and demonstrated mutual respect. She gave me my citation warning, said "nice car, don't park it around here! Have a nice day".

Bottom line was I messed up and did not want a ticket. I wasn't trying to solve race relations in the united states, just that I showed consideration and was given some back.

I got pulled over before, was respectful and still got treated like **** by a cop. I could only imagine if that same cop thought I was breaking into a house. I probably would gotten shot like 70times. The tone of that cop from the jump was pure disrespect. Who knows if that's the type of cop Gates encounter which make him black out, no pun intended.

But I will agree all the times I have been pulled over some by my own wrong doing, some by just being profiled. More times then not if you are respectful a cop won't be to much of an *******. That doesn't mean that all cops are like that though.

ok, so u were rolling through a stop sign... wasn't that cop within her rights to stop u then? at least she had a reason why she stopped u... did she give u an attitude when she pulled u over? did she talk down to you & make u feel disrespected at all? if you can say yes to these questions then you might have a case to point out here about reverse racial profiling, otherwise this is a pointless thread.

then how about you explain it to me martin... he said he was racially profiled by being stopped while rolling a stop sign in a mixed middle class neighborhood by a black female cop... no mention of being mistreated or disrespected by the cop in question, just standard police procedure being displayed by this cop for a standard traffic violation... i'm asking for clarification cuz racial profiling entails being stopped for no apparent reason other than because of one's race... how are you relating that with Nalod's story? i dunno why but you seem to be very attentive & critical any time i ever comment on the race issue... why is that?

well, let's start at the beginning. Where does Nalod say he was racially profiled?

no i'm not. Nalod even said the cop thought his CAR was suspicious, and I suspect that was the part that was "profiled".

I guess you also missed these lines in this post: "Lesson:"... and then the last line: "Bottom line...". I think the major point of the post was something entirely different than the actual profiling part but rather the how-he-handled-it part.

seems like there's plenty of mentions of race in this post... the point i'm getting is that Nalod chose to act respectfully towards a cop who was following standard police procedure & not treating him in any way disrespectfully or with racial prejudice to me... so again, what does any of this have to do w/racial profiling? why even mention the fact that he was profiled when he clearly wasn't? unless he's leaving out some details of the story here, which is why i asked him for clarification.

hope that's clear enough for you now martin.

I seriously don't wanna but in and bang heads with anyone but when I initially read this post and saw the profiled, my understanding was that Nalod was pulled over because he was driving a nice car.

That's just me though...

so the point you're getting is that Nalod wants us all to know that we shouldn't overreact to cops who are following procedure & not racially profiling us in any way... that's great, but who doesn't know this? has there been any discussion of people acting like dicks to cops for no reason whatsoever on these forums that this thread applies to? is this supposed to relate to the discussions we were having about Gates being profiled in his own home over the past few weeks? you seriously wanna draw parallels here? did Nalod do anything that any of the rest of us wouldn't have done in the same situation? the cop treated him w/respect & he responded in kind from what i take from this story... if i were Gates being arrested in my own home for no reason whatsoever, i'd be pretty damn pissed off, i dunno about u... getting pulled over for speeding & rolling a stop sign in a mixed middle class neighborhood is not even in the same ballpark here.

yea, I don't mess with the police.I try to give them what they want and move on. If I am wronged I fight it in court. No way you going to win any kind or argument or altercation with the po po's on the street. Be smart, get home, handle your problems in court...

i guess i'll go back to my original question: where does Naload mention being racially profiled? He did mention he was profiled, and you introduced "racially profiled" and then concluded that his post was pointless.

Even though I my mind went to racial profiling first, it is also the most common kind. From the perspective of the title being a little, um, vague-if you will- on the details, I can see where the disagreement is coming from.

neither do i tkf, i don't mess w/cops either... when i got arrested the arresting officer treated me w/respect & courtesy & i responded in kind... had to spend a night in central holding but the charges were dropped eventually & i let due process take its course... that doesn't always happen tho, & you may find yourself in a more volatile situation w/some volatile cops... until you've been in a situation like that i dunno how anyone thinks they can comment on how someone else should feel or behave... but that's just me.

i got the impression just like joec got the impression that he may have been eluding to racial profiling here... he brings up the fact that he was "profiled" & proceeds to talk about race throughout his post... i was asking Nalod for clarification on his post... i don't typically see people referring to the profiling issue unless they're talking about race.

& read my comments the way they're written... i didn't automatically conclude his post was pointless... i asked whether the cop in question had treated him w/any kind of disrespect or copped some kinda power trip or attitude w/him, in which case i could see his point here, but unless that happened i thought this post was pointless... from his account it seemed like she was following standard police procedure & treated him professionally & w/courtesy, to which he responded in kind... so if the point is to not act like a dick to cops who are treating u with courtesy & respect when you're clearly in the wrong, then cool... i'm pretty sure everyone here agrees with this.
