Jeremy Tyler signed a one-year, $140,000 contract with Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Premier League on Wednesday.

Tyler, 18, is the first American-born player to leave high school early to play professional basketball overseas.

"I think I made the right decision," Tyler told The Associated Press on Wednesday evening. "I think this team is a good fit for me and it's the right country."

We'll see how this works out for him. Seems to me like he's got a nice contract.. he's making more than me and I'm 26 lol.

My first preference wouldn't be Israel though... I'd be looking into Italy, Greece or Spain.

If he wants to be a pro player, this sounds like the way to go. Good for him.

Yeah... he doesn't really look Jewish, does he...

Actually:
The New York Times reports: The 6-foot-9 Tyler chose Haifa over offers from teams in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Slovenia. Sonny Vaccaro, an adviser to Tyler, said that Tyler could have earned more money elsewhere but that Haifa offered English-speaking coaches and the best situation for playing time.

Interesting that there is already a difference how sources are reporting his height. AP reports him to be 6'11" and the NY Times, 6'9."

Hope he gets central AC. Not too far from Tel Aviv if he likes to party (i.e., Haifa kind of boring for that sort of thing).
