Von Wafer to Olympiakos, Ira Newble to Aris - Aug 9, 2009 (by Eurobasket News)
Von Wafer (196-G-85, college: Florida St.) is about to join the Greek powerhouse Olympiakos. The 24-year-old guard spent the last season in the NBA playing for the Houston Rockets. He averaged 9.5 points, 1.7 boards and 1.1 assists per game. The Florida State University graduate Von Wafer was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2005. He also played for the Colorado 14ers and the fort Worth Flyers in the D-League as well as the Nuggets, the Clipper and the Trail Blazers in the NBA. The contract is meant for two seasons.
In the meantime Aris boosted their roster with the addition of Ira Newble (199-F-75, agency: Arik Krayn Services, college: Miami, OH). The 34-year-old forward will arrive to Greece from Israel. There he played for Bnei Hasharon in the last season averaging 14.4 points, 6.0 boards and 1.8 assists per game. Ira Newble used to play in the NBA having stints with the Cavaliers, Spurs, Lakers and Hawks.

Von Wafer gotta pay the bills and don't have time for the politics of getting an nba contract. No recession in europe.

What's the dollars lookin like?

europe is most definitely facing effects of the recession/depression, btw. it's not strictly a u.s. issue by any means.

i believe that team just has the money (aren't they the team that keeps being rumored to sign nate or lebron?) and my guess has just been wanting to use it on an nba caliber player.

Europe is in even deeper st...t economically that US.
But bbal is much more popular in Europe being a #1 sport in some countries and #2 after soccer in others.
A lot of people are spending money and watching. BBal is on decline in US and on upside in Europe and around the world.

I think for sure they can, those three will just get better over there, too, as they take the leadership role and develop more than they would here at this point in their careers.

Von Wafer = Flip Murray from a few years ago. GM's arent trying to get fooled by a nobody who comes out and beasts a little and then falls back down to earth.

Kliesa is the same...just volume shooters that just indiscriminately jack up shots.
