taking into account the economy and salary cap which players will be worth the max going into 2010?

LeBron
Kobe
Chris Paul
Tim Duncan

These r the only 4 guys worth the max hands down, spend the max on anyone else and u r just creating problems for your team.

Close but not quite...

KG
Dwight Howard
Bosh
Carmelo Anthony

next tier...

Paul Pierce
Yao Ming
Amare Stoudemire
Dirk Nowitzki

it all clicked for me last night... the Knicks in 2010 will not sign LeBron or Bosh and in desperation will sign a third tier player close to the max, if not the max to quell fans.

Mark my words.

Brandon Roy & Dwyane Wade belong on the max players list... & how do u figure Dwight Howard is close but not quite? he's the best C in the NBA & not even in his prime yet... if he's not worth a max contract who is?

Yeah I forgot about Dwayne Wade and yeah DHoward definitely should be max but I don't think Roy is a max type player in this economy... did Ray Allen ever get a max contract? They both put up similar numbers.

Wades a max player and 3rd best player in the game because he could average 40 for an entire final series.

To be quite honest that's not even an all star list.

I think along with consistancy, you have to be able to elevate your team above expectations to be consider a true max player

A max player is a player that can almost get his team into the playoffs by himself

Lebron, Wade, Duncan, Howard, Paul, Kobe

That should really be it for max talent in the league right now. And Kobe couldn't do it with Caron and Lamar, so it's very tough. I don't think that Kobe gets the heat in the playoffs last year either.

KG right now is not a max level player (Rondo,Pierce,Allen that's as good as a supporting cast in the league), nor is melo or bosh, roy is very close, durant and derek rose will get there, but the problem is all of these guys think that they deserve the max because they are the best player on their team. It's embarrassing that we hope a guy settles for 6 million.

I find it amusing that everyone dumps on Wall Street all the time and is furious with what those guys get and never looks at the NBA. Would be nice for the President to open his mouth against the game he loves.

Malik Rose made 8 million last year, Marbury 21 million, Marion 18 million, LaFrentz 15 million, Theo Ratliff 12, Jerome James 5, Eddy Curry 10 million, that is downright disgraceful, it's time the NBA really takes a stand so the Allan Houston of the world don't ever get 100 million ever again, Gilbert Arenas that means you buddy. You shouldn't get 7 million just for starting.

It is still 30 players worthy max... and another 10 above 10mils.
50 top players are making a half on NBA cap. It is not even 2 per team...
This is totaly blown out of proportion.

to me, Brandon Roy is a lot more valuable to my team than Ray Allen would be... Roy is the centerpiece of that Blazers team, he makes everything click... Ray Allen is a terrific shooter but he's pretty 1 dimensional... he's not a facilitator of the offense, he's more of a supplementary player... u can't build a team around him & expect to be successful IMHO... w/Roy u can... that's why i put him into the max players' bracket... no 1 player can carry a team by himself either anyway, not even Michael Jordan could do that... for his part, Lebron came pretty damn close to doing it a year ago.

Let's give allan a break..he sign the 1st and only contract that was offered, he never threating to leave and completey carried the knicks in the playoffs right up to the finals. Obviously the contract was ridiculous, but he was well on his way to super star status b4 the knees gave out..and he tried to compensate, causing futher damage.

Baseball has the most ridiculous contracts of all sports IMO. And as much as I appriciate a rod, mark, and CC, they are grossly over paid by any strectch of the imagination.

Wall st and sports are like worlds apart giving the fact that one dictates the economy, and sports are effected by it.

Allan Houston had a nice playoff run I don't think you can say by any means that he carried the team. Outside of that he was a fringe 20pt scorer. That team had Sprewell, Camby, LJ, Kurt Thomas, Childs, Ward, Ewing, Dudely and was the deepest team we have ever had till the injuries. Houston was a huge part of it clearly, but couldn't guard anyone.

Houston 1999 Playoffs (never averaged 3ass or 4rbs during any point as a knick)
17.6pts 3.3rbs 1.6 ass

Camby 10.4pts 7.7rbs 1.9blks 1.2 steals 26 minutes
Sprewell 20pts

He was a nice player but 60 million was the max he should have been payed.

right now Gilbert Arenas & Rashard Lewis are 2 of the worst contracts in the NBA.

How about also the fact, that on Wall St, you can be fired if you cease to perform.
Jerome James, Eddy Curry, etc. should be able to have their contracts terminated.

Yeah, that was a team effort. Houston was a big part of it (And yes he was playing good defense against Reggie) but nobody as an individual carried the team.

60 to 70 would have been a fair deal for Allan.
