I'd sign him 4 years 25-30 mm. If it means forget about Sessions, then so be it. It's not like Sessions is a better player.

Statwise, I'll call it a tie or a small edge to Nate--Sessions played about as well in his 1st full season as Nate did in his 4th. But Sessions can actually guard players in this league and play a traditional NBA position.

N8 would have been great in the NYK's 1990's team. But MDA's system requires a distributor. N8 ain't too great at that, as we have all seen. And although he's a blast to watch, and can jump insanely high, his head isn't screwed on tight enough to be the leader of MDA's team.

We should move on Sessions, and if that's not possible, just sign N8 to a one year deal and kick the stone down the road until next year. I don't care if we make the playoffs this year. I am FULLY on board with DW's plan for 2010, even if it means missing the playoffs this year.

Exactly. The DW tenure will not be judged by whether he makes the playoffs this year

they're about comparable production wise in their respective positions, but for me it's a question of what our needs are... do we need a scorer like Nate or do we need a floor general like Sessions more? i think Sessions helps us more than Nate does to be honest.

nate is undersized and breaks the offense to get his shots. one year deal then wave goodbye.

definitely that would be the ideal... 1 year deal for Nate, sign Sessions longterm, & then look to trade Nate at the deadline to get back an asset like a pick in the 2010 draft or package him to dump Fishlips' contract.

the time to trade nate was last year. on a 1 year deal- not sure how we can realistically expect to.

I think a 1 year deal means we get nothing for him.

The reason you want to take a chance on a Sessions is that the more important aspects of playing the point are things he does well. The scoring isn't the most important thing! I don't think he's as poor a shooter as it's being made out to be. As I mentioned in another thread, Rondo was really weak shooting, but they stuck in there with him and he was extremely productive in the playoffs. There's more to the game than just shooting.

Its highly unlikely you gonna get to dump a contract and pick up a 1st rounder for n8 unless you the pick is all you get.

Yes, as we have talked about extensively in other threads, Nate can veto any trade if he signs a one year deal (same with Lee). And of course, the BYC status would also make him difficult to trade unless a third team is involved.

This all applies only if there is not a team option on year 2 though

Correct. A team option for the 2nd season would circumvent this rule. The problem is that it makes no sense for Lee or Nate to allow that team option to be included unless they are making big money next season, which seems very doubtful.

wait, I have never heard of this 2nd season team option ploy concerning veto rights. Is this for real? Where have you heard this?

likely the case but not a given... it all depends if Nate wants to play ball or not... if we can execute a S&T that's mutually acceptable to both parties, i think it can be done, especially in Nate's case since he's unlikely to have gotten anything over a MLE type contract regardless... w/Lee it's a much more difficult thing to accomplish unless we find a team w/an expiring contract that's valued over the MLE that's willing to take on Lee on a longterm extension.
