Why is this guy still coach?

Politics.

Layden and Dolan know they don't have a winner. They want to just pack the garden and amass personnel to get the knicks into the playoffs for that extra revenue, that's it. The Whole place is smokescreens and mirrors. And Chaney is one of the only coaches out there who knows this and would put up with it. He let's Layden and Dolan pull on his strings like the marianette puppet he is.

Do you think Rivers would put up with that? Jeff Van Gundy? Any real coach? Layden knows this, so he's not going to change the coach. Who else would settle for this nonsense? As Layden said "Chaney is the best coach for what we are trying to do right now." - which is play old-@$$ vets and pretend like the team cares about winning, period.

If Dyess doesn't fall in line soon, he's going to be out of here real quick...

Hmm. Perhaps I'm giving management too much credit, but I think they know the Knicks aren't going anywhere. That's why they keep Chaney around. I don't know what he's earning but I'm going to guess that he makes less than a Van Gundy or a George Karl would.

Also a good coach is not going to want to take on a team with such a flawed roster. I still think that's why JVG left - he could see the writing on the wall and did not want to preside over the Knicks long decline.

Under this scenario, as soon as the Knicks start to look like a team with potential, Chaney will be gone. Until then he stays and we get high draft picks.

But, as I said, I may be giving management too much credit.

I honestly think this lineup is not that flawed and with a good coach we would be really good on defense too.

PG: Eisely/ Ward/ Frank
SG: Houston/Shandon
SF: Keith/Shandon/Clarence
PF: Kurt/ Dice/ Othella
C: Deke/Doleac

Its not really terrible and with the right substitutions, most lineups can prodce well. I'm really optimistic when it gets close to game time so i might be talking out of my ass but I think we need a coach who will play the right players and we an easily make playoffs.

The Marching ordre is as follows:

Dolan pulls LayDown's strings.

LayDown pulls Chaney's strings.

Chaney pulls the team's strings.

If Chaney is fired it will mainly to be so the string-pullers above him can save their own asses.

None of them care about a title or the fans. They don't care about their reputations either. Just a paycheck...
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

totally. This team could be good with the right leadership. Shandon can ball at SG. He CAN. The problem is that every player does not show up every night.

For all the van horn topics and f will topics, none of these guys, no one on the knicks ever really asserts themselves. no one takes over or plays serious defense EVERY GAME. it's about bringing it all the time. that's the coach's job, to make his ballers play every time. these knicks have the talent to be tops in the east. seriously...

A side note... I'd love the NETS to move to brooklyn. that'd be awesome. Just having another team in NY would be the bomb!

I am from Brooklyn and still live here. It would mean that they'd be representing NY... I am too used to those cats being the enemy... Oh no, such sacrilege could not possibly occur...

Right?

Let's not even discuss the Nets moving to Brooklyn in this thread...

it'd be rough if the Nets moved to the 'Nam (brook'nam), but... it's like getting used to dating a new girl... there's no pu$$y like new p*ssy... you just have to get used to it...

It's more like an ex-wife or an ex-girl that you had madd drama with back in the day, coming back and showing up on your doorstep saying "honey, I'm back!".

Please don't let the Nets come over to BK....

Shandon cannot ball. He's doing well because none of the defenses expect him to do anything. I'm impressed at how effective he's been lately but he is not a good player or an answer at any position. If he keeps up the leading scorer duities for the next few weeks or even score a decent amount when he starts to get noticed I will take back everything i say about him now.

for as long as houston is a knick Shandon will never be successful. He's too much of a puss. For whatever reason he's uneffective when houston plays. We need a back SG who we can count on to shoot and score whe houston's out. Shandon scores most of his points on fastbreaks, which is not good cos Defenses step it up after you get a few fastbreak points on them.

which is why you can never count on him to score in the 4th quarter because teams tend to play really hard on defense late in the game.

I want BKLYN to have its own team. We deserve it more than Jersey or Long Island! Hah! BUT, I want Ratner to change their name to the Brooklyn Knights (with the chess piece as a logo on caps, no words - stylin'). Get rid of the whole "Nets" stank.

You guys are crazy. Is it so bad that we're fantasizing about having NEW JERSEY represent BK?

Stop it. STOP IT. All day we argue about the correct stance for the truly loyal fan, and now we're giving new names to the NETS Franchise? GTF out of here... the plan is to do this in 4 years. Even if they do get approval, that team will be vastly different... it's already in decline now in an even weaker eastern conference that the ones the dominated over the last two years.

Let's not pretend that we need a basketball team to properly rep Brooklyn. I'm taking down names of any turn coat, bandwagoning, closet Net fans that betrays entusiasm over having the competition moving onto Flatbush Avenue.

However, like the Times article says, Dolan is in for it if the deal gets approved. We're the old guard, here. Guys who, at the very least, remember John Starks wearing blue and orange. But can you imagine our Knickerbockers trying to compete with a team, that plays in the city's biggest and most populous borough, and owned by Jay-Z? The young kids'll be shooting eachother all over Bushwick and Crown Heights to get the new Brooklyn Jay Kidd jersey. But I expect more from the people on this board. Dolan had better wake up and deliver a winning product soon...

Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

Brooklyn can be the peoples team, the Knicks can be the suits team. We need a team to cater to the peeps not the corporations.
