i wouldn't be surprised if there's another h20 rule next summer. but this time, the contract is taken off the cap as well.

this may explain why walsh was willing to give lee a rumored $8 mil/year deal and is going after sessions at MLE. the added $13 mil next year's cap (if lee were to re-sign) wouldn't hurt if they were allowed to dump another deal courtesy of the exemption.

Either that or he remembers how easy it was to shed $26 mil in 2010 payroll last season

the rule was to remove a contract counted towards luxury tax. but it didn't come off your cap. that wouldn't help the knicks but they may alter the rule to also have the contract come off your cap.

is this what walsh meant when he said he knows something that he can't talk about?

Whatever emerges, Stern and the NBA will probably make sure that we cant take advantage of it somehow.

could be. Maybe Nate goes with JJ and then Duhon or Lee with Curry at the deadline for an expiring to a team over the cap anyway.

nah. the reason he is thinking about offering Lee $8M and Sessions $5M is that once the cap went down this summer, the math to net two Max deals next summer became nigh on impossible.

and i'll believe Walsh is planning to offer Sessions a deal when Sessions actually signs something. not when Chubby tells us he might. every other PG has visited the Knicks in NY. why hasn't Sessions? not sure i believe this will ever happen at this rate.

crzy.. maybe they just dont like Sessions that much. Nice player, but a marginal upgrade over Duhon.

as i said in a post i made, i believe d'antoni loves him and walsh is hesitant, mostly because of the 2010 number. also, you have to remember d'antoni loved marcus banks, too. he may not be the best talent evaluator for his own system. i think the best option for all things considered may be iverson as i've also said. but it seems like they're going to let this sessions thing play out first.

Not really. The math is the same. When the cap comes down, so do max contracts.
Max contracts are 30% of the cap. A max deal will start at 15 mil if the cap is 50mil.
Rather than starting at 18mil like it does today when the cap is almost 60.

David Aldrige spells out what the owners want... basically, they want a lock out. with this news, i can't see a single guy like Bron or Wade leaving their home team next summer and taking less money from an outside team. the new reality will mean they can get so much more than ever from their own teams. and it means summer of 2011 will be LOCK OUT CENTRAL. we'll get to use our cap room, but only see our shiny new team play one season. sigh.
With the caveat that a wish list at the beginning of negotiations is just that, and that both sides will certainly have some give in them before a new deal is done, the source with access to the owners says they have several other significant changes on their agenda going into the negotations, including:

• Implementing a hard cap. "A hard, hard cap," the source said. The NBA has operated with a "soft" cap since the implementation of the salary cap in 1984, with several kinds of exceptions allowed to either re-sign players already on a team's roster or to entice players from other teams to sign. These include the famous "Larry Bird" exception that allows a team to exceed the cap in order to re-sign its own player; the "mid-level" exception, starting with the average salary paid in a given season, and going out up to five years with annual eight percent raises; and the "bi-annual" exception, which teams can use every other year, and is generally used to help sign veteran players.

A hard cap, such as is used in the National Football League, would eliminate all exceptions. Teams would have a specific amount they could spend on salaries, and could not exceed it for any reason;

• Higher luxury taxes. A "supertax" that would basically double the luxury tax to $2 for every dollar a team exceeds the tax threshhold, from its current $1. The league tried to implement a supertax in the last negotiation with the players, but the union held firm against it, feeling it would have a devastating impact on free agency;

• Shrinking the gap between salary cap and tax threshhold. A smaller spread between the salary cap figure and the tax threshhold. Next year's cap is set at $57.7 million; the tax threshhold is $69.9 million.

ouch on Marcus Banks. Phoenix actually made some horrible moves starting with letting Joe Johnson walk.

I hate to say it but whatshisface.. > Robert Sarver. Jim Dolan (tired..went blank there and forgot the man who used to be the bane of my existence)

Jim Dolan > Robert Sarver because at least he opens up his wallet.

If you study the history of the Suns drafts and trades and dealing with FAs it is pretty ugly.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please
