ewing was not appreciated during the final years of tenure.

let's say the knicks didn't go into the toilet almost within 2 years of his departure, would ewing have been revered as much as he's been if that were not the case?

Nah... has more to do with how some of you feel about Jessica Alba.

I think if the Knicks got more outta the trade they made to get rid of Ewing...then people wouldn't care as much. He's still a warrior...NY'ers always give thanks after the fact so things would eventually just stay the same as they are now.

revered means idolized, honored or adored- the if should be followed by --they had won an NBA championship during his years patrolling the middle for the Knicks.

i ask this b/c karl malone and stockton were never booed in utah. utah then reloaded relatively quickly yet both were lauded for their achievements despite the team having success soon after their retirement.

but ewing was almost run out of town at the end there. if the knicks kept winning, would people look back that fondly about him?

imho, i don't think they would b/c ny fans don't appreciate anything. that applies to all ny sports, not just the knicks.

if we regrouped and went on to win a championship or two, then Ewing wouldn't be a special, but since we did go on to suck, i think this adds to the Ewing lore.

I think we appreciate him more because of how bad things got, but I think he would have been loved no matter what. The guy put in a lot of work while he was here and always brought it. It was a shame how he was run out of town but the ride at that point was over.

I did make sure to watch his games while he was on Seattle right after the trade because I always loved Ewing and also was at MSG when they raised his jersey to the rafters. He is a legend and I think he would be remembered as one either way.

Ewing is revered by every true Knick fan. Thats why i asked to make sure i know what "revered" means. Just because we didn't get a chip don't mean nothing. The management screwwed the pooch big time when they traded him away i mean BIG TIME. Just because they did that don't mean that he wasn't revered. Likely Ewing is one of top 3 Knicks of all time. How much more revered can you get? DJ, pls don't take it the wrong way but you come off as a troll by starting this thread(to some1 who, lets say is new to the forum)

The fanbase was too hard on Ewing because all the other NY teams (that mattered) won championships while he was with the Knicks... Giants, Yankees, Rangers. The expectations were high. I know I was probably a bit to harsh and anyone who says otherwise about themselves is a revisionist historian. Regardless, Ewing's jersey is the only Knicks one I ever bought.
