It just chafes me to see the best players in the draft going to small market teams that nobody cares about year after year.

The California teams alone had 3 of the top seven lottery picks this year (Clips, Kings, Warriors). Why does Cali need four freaking teams when nobody there even cares about any team that isn't the Lakers?

Nobody cares about those teams? You see what it's like when they are good? Plus Golden State is supposed to be the NYC of the west coast, when it comes to bball. They breathe basketball there.

It just happens that the Clippers and Warriors have been mismanaged for so long that people don't bother. The Kings are entering that territory too unfortunately.

The team that definitely qualifies for contraction is Charlotte. It seems like New Orleans is a candidate too.

If a team goes bancrupt the apraised value of other teams crumble and its the collateral for many millions of loans.

Your thinking as a fan. Look at the ecnomics.

Teams contract when they are bancrupt. League lends money to hurting teams, then finds buyers for them. The owners boys club does not eat its own. It protects each other.

Sac moves to Vegas before it contracts. Golden State is a big big market. Clips and lakes share an arena. Clips make money.

Rookie might not care, but its about money, not Rookies entertainment toward small cap teams.

Portland, Sac and Oklahoma are the only game in town and does not have competition from other teams.

Lived in the Bay area from 1998 to 2006 and no way is that true. Basketball is a distant third to football and baseball. There is tremendous apathy when it comes to the Warriors.

Yeah, if they turned into a powerhouse I'm sure their support would swell, but there isnt really much passion for the Warriors or for any other team besides the Raiders. The Niners were the best organization in sports for 2 decades, but once they started sucking their support evaporated almost immediately. Too many fair weathers and transplants out here.

My fault then. Everything I've heard was that the SF fans were huge on the Warriors and that they bled, breathed and sweat basketball. That was all from media guys though, but since your actually live there, your opinion is a little bit more realistic.

Interesting.

What about the Kings though?

What about the Kings though?

Kings are an interesting study.

Throughout the 90s they had arguably some of the more passionate and loyal fans in all of sports. Much of which was a product of Sacramento natives having little else to do and no other team to cheer for (Phil Jax calling Sac a cowtown was mean but accurate). Even with the Kings going 15-67 each year, Arco Arena was one of the loudest arenas in the league. If any city deserved a winner, it was theirs.

Then when they got successful and popular, the crowd dynamics changed. In came the yuppies and whatnot. Once the organization came back down to earth in the last few years, the support has waned a lot. Perhaps it has something to do with the Maloofs screaming about a new arena and threatening to leave (they should get a new arena, cause Arco is LITERALLY in the middle of nowhere) but it just seems the fans are forever spoiled off of the success from earlier in the decade.

The innocence of being the underdog losers from a no nothing city (ironic that sac is the capitol of Cali) is gone. The fans expect greatness now.

If these teams are making money, then why do we need a luxury tax? Can someone please explain how the lux tax works? Where does the money go?

Stern refuses the idea of contraction in fact he's trying to expand. He wants a team in Mexico City. He wants teams in London, Paris, Munich, etc. And he wants them a part of the nightly NBA fix.

What this guy doesn't seem to understand is that when you have a league that has now expanded to roughly 450 players a lot of those players are going to suck. They don't deserve to be in the NBA but they are. He has effectively watered down the product but he has countered it by likely helping the Celtics, Magic, Lakers, Spurs, Nuggets, Cavs (not so much), acquire all the good players. Back in the day half the league was as good as those six teams. Today, it's just six teams out of 30 with the rest scrambling to sign the leftover trash like Sessions, Williams, Iverson, etc.

Every night in the 80s and 90s even the crap teams had some very good player you had to face. Today? It's trash. If you're not top 6 in this league you're terrible.

We need to contract four teams. Then have some sort of draft regarding those 60 players. Then cut 60 garbage players out of this league. Suddenly the average player is a whole lot better.

Get rid of the Lavor Postells and Anthony Robersucks of the league and you have a better product.

But, no, this moron wants to EXPAND not CONTRACT. He will put a brand new team in Seattle and then say "Oh, 31 isn't a good number, let's make it 32!" and that 32 will probably be Mexico City (because it's close enough for travel purposes - before thinking about European cities).

And then you got 60 more players in the league. 60 that don't belong.

I don't know what this prick is thinking these days but he took a perfect product and destroyed it all because Michael Jordan left the league. Every thing he did that he thought would keep things going after MJ left has had a negative effect. We had the And-1 trash infiltrate the league and then he tries the age limit thing to filter that out. We had the worst reffed games, purposely done, to make clowns like Dwayne Wade the "next Michael Jordan".

He really destroyed this league in so many ways. It's slowly coming back but you just watch he will expand. We'll have the Mexican Michael Jordan. Some piece of garbage that can't hit the side of a barn going to the FT line 45 times a night just so his Mexico City NBA Team has a "superstar" on it.

Sometimes recently I wonder why I bother with this game but I come back to reality and understand that it is no longer an actual sport on a level playing field and much more like that 1980s WWF I enjoyed watching. It's entertainment. It's not sport. It's entertainment. Tell yourself that and you can stomach this gross BS that they try to sell to us as a legitimate sport. It's not. It's fixed.

Have you considered the influx of players from south america, asia, europe and africa?

When we needed shooters we imported them. A new generation coming up realizes that some skills are needed.

Do you think the state of the economy will lead to contraction of the league?
