Mike D'Antoni is on record as having said that Chris Duhon played well in the first half of last season. He predicted Chris would do well in the coming season. This theory is contradicted by the obvious interest the Knicks have paid to other team's point guards in both the draft and also in free agency.
Here are some questions that puzzle me:
1)Did Donnie make a move for Sessions as a ploy to get Nate back to the table to sign a one year deal?
2) Or does Donnie really believe that Sessions would be a better point guard for the Knicks this year than Chris Duhon?
3) If Sessions is so good, why don't the Bucks at least think he is worthy of being their backup point guard?
4) Are the Knick's actively looking to move Chris Duhon and might that be a reason for their delay in moving forward with the Sessions deal currently?
5} When Duhon named his favorite coaches recently, D'Antoni wasn't on his list. Mike gave Chris another chance to be a starter. Based on what he did for Nash, he seems to be good at helping his point guards play better. Even if Duhon had some behind the scenes disagreements with D'Antoni, doesn't it seem strange Chris is kicking sand in Mike's face, while he is still potentially the starting point guard for the Knicks in the coming season?
6) Has Mike already decided that he needs a higher profile point guard than Chris Duhon going into the 2010 free agency sweepstakes?
Which of these questions do you have answers for?
1. IDK, I'm not Donnie. I don't think Donnie or D'Antoni really want Nate back all that much though but they'd rather re-sign him for a year and try to trade him then lose him for nothing in free agency.
2. Sessions is a good PG and I think D'Antoni believes he would be a better PG than Duhon. I don't know if Donnie agrees, hence the fact no offer has been made.
3. This is my argument as well. If they don't even match a $4 million a year offer for Sessions then that tells you something. They could always try to trade him anyway. Letting him go in favor of Luke Ridnour? But then again when Scott skiles sours on someone, he really sours on them.
4. I don't think they are looking to move Duhon. If they got a guy who is a starter then Duhon would be a back up. Duhon is only here for 1 more season. Right now he's still the starting PG and it remains to be seen if Douglas can steal minutes from him.
5. I don't know why Duhon didn't mention D'Antoni and I don't really care since Duhon isn't a permanent solution for this team.
6. Higher profile? No. Better PG? Yes. And everyone else knows that too, not only Mike. But we will see how everything plays out. We might not have a PG till we get to 2010.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.
