Agent says Rubio overhyped

Bill Duffy is now one of the top-rated agents in the NBA, representing players such as Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns and many other top players. Duffy is also a great judge of talent, according to former Timberwolves chief Kevin McHale. So when Duffy says he didn't have Ricky Rubio, the team's top draft choice, rated as fifth in the first round, you listen. "To be honest with you, the other kid, Brandon Jennings, who played in Italy, ranked higher," said Duffy, referring to his client, a point guard who was picked 10th by Milwaukee. "I had three other first-round point guards, but I didn't have [Rubio] ranked that high. I think he is pretty good, but I think he might be a little hyped up."

Why would an agent say such a thing?
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Absolutely.

Although I do agree that there was a lot of hype surrounding Rubio. Can he live up to it? We might never even get to find out. Still amazed players still under contract are allowed to enter the draft and then burn the team that drafts them. Just...amazed given all the rules Stern has in place regarding the signing or trading of players.

Meanwhile, what is hype anyway? Look at Oden's hype and he turned out to be mediocre. Was supposed to be a superstar right out of the gate, a man among boys, and look.

Look at our own Jordan Hill who showed about 1/4th of what he was advertised to be - or our own Toney Douglas who I feel actually surpassed what he was advertised to be.

Look at LeBron, hype all around, and he's lived up to it.

So, well, Rubio has a lot of hype and news surrounding him. Is he really Piston Pete reincarnate? Or is he Jason Williams reincarnate? Or maybe he's just Luke Ridnour. Who knows?

But, I do agree with the agent, the hype has likely well surpassed the actual talent of the player.

Then....you read it's Jennings' agent and he talks up his man at the end.

Credibility takes a down turn right there IMO.

Is Mchale his client? Who is his clients? Oh, its Jennings!!!!!

Isn't this quote like a month old now??

Jennings not much better landing in Milwaukee!!! The land of Spree and the home of the brave!

PapaBear don't want the cute Spaniard??

The Kid is 18, he has a flair and by NBA standards he should not even start yet.

This argument got like 5 years to be solved. When both of those guys are 23-24 and just getting to their prime!

Is Rubio hyped? Of course! So is every draft pick until they hit the floor for real!

Can't be from what you read around here about Rubio. That agent surely hasn't seen him play as much as the posters here on the UK

We need a point guard that is ready from day one. Rubio got his rep from the olympics.

I think Jennings is the more impressive prospect, to be quite honest. Milwaukee is ready to dump sessions to give Jennings burn and I dont blame em

I thought that was one of the funnier things I heard all day.

Outplayed Rubio in a head-to-head meeting. Way more polished on the offensive end and far more athletic.

Rubio is a more clever and inventive passer, tho. We'll see whose game translates better in due time.

Whats funny is the chess game of the off season is pretty darn amusing as time goes on. The games are great, especially when our team is doing well but the cap, free agents, Restricted free agents, Expirings, trade exemptions, unrestricted, MLE, etc etc all make for a game within a game!!!!!
