I saw a little bit of this game last night. It's going to play again at 3PM today on MSG. I was thinking it would be fun to do a game thread, to bad it's not going to air again in the evening. This game is just another reminder of how far we have to go and how much the NBA has declined over the years. I would love to see how todays superstars, or rather super teams, would perform against some of the teams from that era (and before).

The pace on this game is incredibly fast, and it doesn't let up. Man, this game just confirms what I was thinking about our team, our guys are soft. A bunch of over paid one way players who don't take any pride in their defense. They all just want to get theirs, run their stats up and get the big pay day. Really sad, our guys couldn't hold a candle to that team. They should all cover their heads with towels

And then there was the infamous Charles Smith feebleness in the final game. Talk about soft. It was the closest the woeful Knicks have been.

i loved those teams. but man, that was some *ugly* basketball...

for all the awesomeness oak provided on one end, he was a huge liability on the other. it would've been interesting to see if they let charles smith be the PF and moved oak for a real SF/SG. and riley is the greatest coach of all time.

Ugly how? Not everything can be an and-1 tourney.

These guys played slug it out basketball but it was still at a quick pace. You're looking at athletes here. Not a selfish bone in any body out there in that game. Not one.

It's a shame the league is the other way around now. Primmadonnas...who can't be touched...and gun away without a conscious. I'm going to be flashy and get mine. That's all this disaster of an NBA is now. And-1 tricksters chucking from deep or traveling all over the place with fancy dribbling and getting away with it.

I absolutely loved the 1980-1999 NBA. Since then it's been a JOKE. Spoiled brats throwing themselves to the ground like soccer players to get a call that wasn't there. Average players getting superstar calls just because they play for a team or with a player the league likes. Just a bunch of pussies out there.

Stern is an absolute MORON. Why change a successful product!? Why? I would take everything from 2000-onward and throw it in the TRASH and return to that absolutely amazing 1980-1999 era of NBA basketball.

This kiddie **** of today makes me sick. "OHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT CROSSOVER OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Meh....

not and1 but there was a sequence of 4 consecutive possessions with turnovers or fouls. those knicks teams struggled so hard to move the ball around the floor so the offense was not appealing. but the defense was great.

The struggle was a result of a stifling Rockets defense. Those two teams met up because of deadly defense AND offense. Oh, and yeah, that Jordan guy was busy playing golf and mourning his pops. Chicago would have won 8 straight no doubt. Different topic though.

If today's Knicks were guarding those Knicks they'd go for 130 on 70% shooting.

The 1980's (The Lake-Show, Sixers, Celts, Bucks, Nuggets, etc) was a completely different brand of basketball than the 1990's (Badboys, and especially Knicks thugball).

I love the Knicks as much as anyone and rooted hard for the Knicks when they played that brute ball. While I was in the middle of it, it didn't look so bad mainly because the Knicks won. But looking back on those games now are very hard to watch. Especially some of those Heat/Knicks games. Those games (75 to 73) were etremely ugly looking back on it.

Ugly how? They were so intense that neither team could score on one another.

Tough to watch...like it was for us to watch the Spurs win titles with their basketball style?

I guess.

I just know the 1979-1999 era of basketball was amazing and it has since gone to complete ****. A bunch of uneducated, lazy, stupid, and-1 whiny tricksters murdering the game.

The Crawfuls, ZachAsses, Arenasses...

At least for a year or two the Celtics, Magic, Lakers, and Nuggets revived things.

I caught it last night too...

Both team played so hard. I don't think players play as hard as they did back in the day. Mason was so damn good for us. Derek Harper was a rock and just so Gangstar...

Talk about Starks game 7 performance...but you know what? The Knicks over achieved big time. They could match up well with any team but their defense always took them to the next level. The soldier mentality was just so off the hook it was crazy. Houston Won because Ewing's confidence was shot because of Houston's double teaming...Otis Thorpe was just the ultimate sidekick and Hakeem was just the best center ever next to kareem, Wilt, Russell...Thorpe could have averaged big scoring numbers on other teams. Then add Horry, Cassell, Mario...Houston's bench was just better.

Regardless, I miss those days. NBA was real basketball back then.

I watched. Absolutely brutal. The amount of grabbing allowed back in the day was insane.

OJ was Game 5 if I recall. This is game 2. No interruptions.
