Kurt Thomas + Slavo Vranes to seattle for Ron Murray and Vitale Potapenko

Mike Doleac 2 second round picks or 1 late retrcied 31 to 18 +1mm to Denver for Rodney White

Sign both players to 3 year extensions at 3mm per and team opions for 4th

Line up

C-Deke 32 minutes Potapenko 16 Harrington foul trouble
PF Mcdyess 16 minutes Van Horn 16 minutes harrington 16 minutes
SF Van horn 16 minutes White 25 minutes Andersen 7 minutes
SG Houston 30 minutes Andersen 18 minutes
PG Murray 30 minutes Eisley 18

Finally either buyout ward or trade him to a team looking to cut cap space this year for a pick and a number 1 pick in 2004. If that cannot be acheived, release ward and save the $$$$

This team needs to cut down on player minutes. Introducing Murray White and Andersen to nice PT will help the teams athletiscm attacking of the basket and getting to the FT line. Cutting down on Van Horns minutes will hopefully make him more effecient in terms of TO's.

Because Murray is what Vujonic probably hopes to be--and the possibility of getting a restricted 1 for ward--we could go into the offseason loaded. I think this team however as constructed would be a tough team in the east. Right now the team is WAY to slow, to robotic to careless. We need to keep deke in there for 30 minutes + for defense and rebounding--the other guys up our ez baskets FT total and team speed.

The moves aren't that much helpful. The same team basically with ronald murray.

Potapenko is average and at best 8 pts 8 rebs. I'd rather have Kurt than Potapenko and no one wants Vranes. He is supposed to be a pretty unco-ordinated player.

Play Kurt for a real center or really good back up SG or someone else. We have a good PG in Frank and Milos is comming to town soon, hopefully.

Im not overvaluing what Im giving up. What I am setting out to do is *restructure* the team--not just for this year but for a rebuilding process on the run.

I saw Murray play 3 times this year--he is very quick, athletically explosive and reminds me a LOT of Gilbert Arenas. Potapenko is merely a guy who can play back up C to facilitate the deal and pave the way to dump Doleac.

Rodney White is more versatile than ANY Knick we have. Just look at his line last night 23 points 7 reb 4 assits 2 ste 2 block when was the last knick to have something like that--in 26 minutes? He had two triple doubles last year hes 6-9 235 and can play 2-3.

This way I can incorporate 3 athletic players into the line up for 25 or so minutes who can attack the basket---pick up team speed enormously and increase EZ buckets.

what did I give up? Crp crp crp 2nd round picks or a very late 1 that we probably wouldnt have to pay for 5-7 years.

This team needs to be rebuilt, but there is no reason why we cant try winning at the same time. You have to have some faith when you see the talent. You are not going to acquire a player like that with a large body of work. You have to get it before they do--like Indiana taking Jermaine Oneal. If you replace Thomas with Mcdyess--even if he plays 18 minutes--you can still use both KVH and harrington at the 4. using KVH at the 4 at some points in the game opens up time for andersen and white. you make a modest 3-4 year commitment to each player and you start incorporating Lampe Vujonic + pick next year.

the way I see the club in the future is built more around athletiscm + versatility+speed+heart/mental toughness. Build up enough weapons with a new coach and a style of playand it wont be a 1 year pick and hope he pans out deal.

What Im representing is a change is philosophy. Cater to players with the attributes I said above. even if it seems like we are giving up *supposedly* to much for something not so proven.

I like it..but..I haven't seen Ron Murray play yet. Can he play the point? Where does FWill stand in your plans?

Also, I would replace Doleac with Sweetney in that deal. I like Doleac off the bench.

I like Doleac too but I dont want to give up Sweetney before seeing what he's got. Too bad Sweetney doesn't get to play when Chaney coaches but this dude is a good baller.

Also, I really want to see Frank run the point. I think he'll be better than Flip. I dont like Deke and Potapenko at center and Rodney White isn't a great player and I think u are giving up too much for him. We alerady have an abundance of mediocre undersized Power forwards and not enough centers. If the knicks trade for Rodney, he must be atleast better than average.

I don't know if Sweets is really "a good baller" as you say... but I do know that personal is not the main problem here. It's coaching.

The coach is responsible for correcting negative trends. The more leads we blow, the more obvious it is that Chaney deserves the blame.
Let it be known: I believe in the Knicks this year-- deep into the playoffs, I swear to you my brothers...

I agree with all of the above statements. Briggs, good posts. I like your insight. You broke down what the Knicks need exactly the way I did 2 years ago. Wee need more fiery, agressive, athletic players here. Aside from the aquisition of Deke @ the 5 and KT excelling @ the 4 increasing our boards and D in the paint, we have different but more obvious problems. Now we can't make a pass, keep the ball inbounds or keep the ball from getting stripped. We still can't retain leads, get to the foul line enough or close games out strong. Bottom line, we're still taking L's.

It's because of the Management, the coaching, and the players.
If this keeps up, we will see a shakeup in the coach spot and the roster (in that order, IMO).
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

it's not personal, it's personnel

and the coach is the problem here.

Beyond any player I posted for a trade etc.. the team needs to identify

A-A certain style of play and stay with it. We are all over the board. We have skil players who can really shoot the ball, but that doesnt equate to wins--case in point 52 + 57 FG% and we lose.

B-Once we have established the style of play, we need to restructure the team so that the personell fits the style.

C- Thats why I dont mind what some would perceive as over paying--thats relative. Trades are not won and lost at the execution but rather over time. What might look like overpaying now could look 100% the opposite in a year.

D I like an attack style, and I think fans like attacking players. Deke even in his slowed down state is a C form of attack. He attacks ballhandlers coming into the lane with his tremendous wingspan and size--and that is why we have won when he plays 30+ minutes.

When I identified to athletes like ron murray and rodney white, I want to add them with shanden andersen so I have more versatility and more guys who can attack the defense and their basket. I also said from day 1 KVH is more effecient with less minutes. He should play 30-32 MAX--and now with H2O really hurting the same thing--30 or so minutes max. If I give up a Doleac Thomas Ward some second round picks some cash so what. I have harrington who can play behind dice--there are other options. Im trying to move some of the slower slog players out and bring in some frsh athletic guys who have proven--albeit in limited sessions that they can play at a high level in the NBA.

Remember this YOU HAVE TO TAKE RISKS TO GET BETTER And the risks I like are with younger guys who have already showed something. Im not big on rehashed vets with injury problems

this also speeds up the process of rebuilding the team--very much like what Indiana did. did they draft artest no did they draft oneal no they stole the players using vets heck J Oneal was averaging 3 points a 2 boards OVER 4 yeasr!@

To me Lampe is an absolute untouchable, but not sweetney. If I can get a player who fits better than mike i move him. Heck Jerry west traded drew gooden for mike miller AS soon as he became trade eligible and drew gooden is WAY better than sweetney.
