The Knicks met with free-agent point guard Andre Miller on Monday, the Daily News has learned.

According to a team source, the meeting between Miller and Knicks president Donnie Walsh took place at the Knicks training facility in Greenburgh. It is not believed that the Knicks made Miller an offer. Miller is hoping to sign for more than the mid-level exception of $5.8 million.

A more plausible scenario for the Knicks would be to work out a sign-and-trade with the Sixers. Chris Duhon would almost certainly be included in a deal for Miller.

Last week, Miller met with officials from the Portland Trail Blazers, who have money under the salary cap to offer Miller a contract worth $8 million to $10 million annually. There has also been talk of a possible sign-and-trade between Portland and Philadelphia.

"Pay me or I'll sign with the Knicks! I mean it!"

Yeah, I'm tired of listening to this song.

Exactly. The knicks are getting screwed by the guys. Waslh needs to stop playing around and go after a guy like Sessions who can grow with the team.

You read my mind. Walsh should send a F.U. to this veteran free agents and go after young talent like Sessions.

I'm beginning to think that's exactly what's going to happen... remember that summer when the Bulls cleared all that cap space and ended up overpaying Eddie Jones?

I don't think we're getting screwed I don't really feel those who spurned us would help us much. Hill would have been a good mentor... Kidd not as much socially but basketball wise absolutely. Miller - is a very underrated player but about 4 years too old - and older than I thought he was - and he is no role model.

Sessions, I see people hot on this guy, I just don't know enough about him. Do we really want to MLE him for 5 years? If we do, and the Bucks match, that's the same business we're hoping to put Lee and Nate through - so I don't fault Sessions for using us to get paid.

It's the business of things. Use Dolan's money as a way to force other teams to pay you what you want when you had no intention of going to NY and the Knicks probably had no intention of paying you that amount. The fact that teams cave into media projections of what the Knicks offered free agents is hilarious to me. I don't feel slighted as a fan I laugh at the other teams for believing Berman, Hahn, Isola, Vecsey, and using their columns and going on to panic over their own FA's and offering them more money to stay somewhere they were probably never leaving in the first place.

Also, to add, in our present stage of continuing to tear down Isiah's mistakes and just starting to enter an actual rebuilding phase - with a roster full of players most of whom won't be here in the near future - why stress over these washed up FAs? What would they do for us win wise anyway? Win us 3-5 more games so we can miss the playoffs by a lesser margin than recent years? BAH........

You know perfectly well there will be at least a couple of times that will be the case. It's been going like this for years.

If we had signed every player that said they wanted to play in NY, we'd have the Dream Team right now.

I think they are just doing due dili. The money out there is drying up and they need to be in a position to take advantage if they can.

i think this was probably something more along the lines of donnie saying, "hey andre, if that trade to portland doesn't work out and you don't re-sign with philly, why don't you think about signing here for at least a year and pump up your stats in the biggest media market in the world?" it's not a bad move by donnie at all.

and, especially if this story leads to portland using their cap space on miller instead of lee, it might not be the worst idea in the world.

I blame Isiah for whining and dinning Erick Dampier at the stake house to get a stake sub. Then Isiah took Stromile Swift to the club. lol Ever since then everyone has been singing "New York New York"

reggie miller was singing the song back in 1996. he was pissed when allan houston signed and took away his leverage with indiana - though he never intended to leave. donnie knows the score because he's been on the other side.

marv, it's the only way i can sleep at night.

yeah, i think we would have won it all in 1997 with reggie over allan.

Ward
Reggie
LJ
Oak
Ewing

that would have won it all, even with jordan around. maybe. it would have been fun. oh well. but i do remember a story that at dream team 2 practice reggie ran up to grant hill and said something like, "your boy ruined my leverage!" right after allan signed with the knicks (leaving grant in detroit)

No, that is the complete opposite. Miller as well as Tim Hardway wanted to come to New York. They both have stated that's why they hated New York so much in TV interviews and on radio. Dan Patrick has asked Miller the story several times. I'm talking about guys using New York now while we are losing games. When the Knicks were winning players really did want to come here.

I agree. I think some people here are too sensitive to rejection. You gotta explore all FA options and can't let your feelings be hurt if the guy signs elsewhere.
