Report: Nash will sign extension with Suns

ESPN is reporting Steve Nash has informed the Suns he will accept their 2-year, $22 million extension.

Many thought the Knicks New York Knicks would be interested in signing Nash next July after his contract expired with Phoenix. But if this report is accurate (and all indications seem that is) the two-time MVP will not be available for a 2010 reunion with Mike D'Antoni. Nash flourished under D'Antoni's run-and-gun system, which is why it was thought to be a good match.

"Obviously I love New York City; I'm making this my home. Mike D'Antoni is one of my favorite coaches. So in a lot of ways it'd be amazing,'' Nash told the Post's Brian Lewis last month when asked about the possibility of signing with the Knicks.

"But it's not simple; a lot of stuff has to go right for me to be in New York. And I'm happy in Phoenix. We'll see what happens."

Apparently, Nash was happy enough not to delay his decision until next season.

He is expected to confirm his decision on his twitter account later today.

Does this mean there is no possibility of his signing with NY in '10?

No. It means he knows he's about to have a terrible season and he's cashing in before it's too late.

I think Nash is smart enough to see the writing on the wall.

The $ is drying up.

This at least eliminates us signing someone who, while great, has clearly peaked.
Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Nash was never a factor in anything we were doing considering his age so who really cares?
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Nash knows we're signing Sessions.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

you're looking at the glass half empty...I'm optimistic someone like the Little General will succeed him and remind the city what it is to execute and defend. He's had a year off to reflect and learn from his mistakes. Avery will do fine here.

far be it from me to proclaim any knowledge of how things will play out. i'm just hopeful. if avery was our coach, i'd still be hopeful. it is curious, however, that the guy still hasn't gotten a job after being up for numerous positions. maybe he wants to be our defensive assistant

i don't know man. i just give every regime the same shot. when we got layden, i thought he'd find us some diamond in the rough players like he had a history of finding in utah. when we got isiah, i thought he'd be able to pull off the same type of reclamation projects he pulled in indiana. now, we have walsh, i hope that his slow and steady approach leads to a long-lasting era of contending much like his pacer days where he made the playoffs 90% of the time.

he turned down memphis. I don't know what happen with philly but the pistons didn't want to pay him what he wanted.

sounds like from this interview he had some philosophical differences with the Sixers roster:

great interview

This thread is supposed to be about Nash signing with the Suns. Not good for us. And not so much that we don't get Nash to play for us at 36 yrs old, but the fact that all of the veterans are snubbing us. They look and don't like what they see. We still have too many problems and not enough good players.

I think all these NBA vets are waiting to see who the Knicks get next summer.

If we sign the right guys who knows maybe we'll start getting discounts like the Celtics...

THat was his original plan, but I haven't heard anything about that. Seems to be a guaranteed contract (no option). If it did, he has already stated he would like to play for MDA in NY. I will definitely watch some Suns games this year to see if he still has his game. But it seems more and more like the NYK are in full rebuilding mode, and next sumer will be the decisive one that tells if we are heading for quick reclamation of contending, or if we are in for the long, hard slog of getting lucky in the draft while slowly adding talent via FA in an era of diminished cap space.

Let's hope it's the former, as it would be great to wach basketball playoffs with orange and blue.

does that mean he opts out of next season and has a deal that runs through 2010/11 or does he pick up the option and get 2 more years on top of that through 2011/2012?

Doesn't matter- we'll be able to trade for Nash season after next - once he has slowed up, been hurt and is considered overpaid

I certainly would not have said no to Nash @ 36 at the MLE - but now, forget it.
