Most people say the Ewing trade was the one that started all the mess but it really wouldn't have hurt that much, if we had let Rice walk after his contract expired and buyout travis knight like we did. We would have some salary cap space to sign some real FA.
The real problem was trading for Howard Eisely and Shandon Anderson! They are no help the team and hurt the salary cap. Its really all Layden's fault. There is no way Dolan forced him to get those 2 fags and also sign Clarence to a multi year contract! Layden really is incompetant
in defense of Layden signing Clarence... LJ was retiring/forced out. Clarence was the closest NBA player in the L who could replace LJ (not that we should have tried to get a "match" for LJ)... the thing is, the year before we signed Clarence, he TORE UP the league in rebounding (avging over 10 rips per outing for the Cavs - don't laugh, they had tyrone hill on the squad - i think - but still, he was highly sought after).
They just need to put Clarence on a training day program...
