The Knicks courted Jason Kidd and Grant Hill, but where given the cold shoulder by both.

New York has long been preparing themselves for next summer, when a number of top-level free agents are expected to hit the market, but one agent doesn't believe they'll have much success.

"Right now, the Knicks are not relevant," a prominent player agent with a few high-profile clients in next summer's free agent class told the New York Daily News.

"Only the media in New York keeps them relevant. The Knicks are trying to do the right thing but they've got a long way to go."

Alot of truth to that statement. Here's to hoping we have a solid season and change the minds of people around the league. Gallo, Hill, Chandler have to be huge for us this year.. HUGE.

"Right now, the Knicks are not relevant,"
I think everyone knows this. You could even modify it by saying "for the past decade, the Knicks have not been relevant."

People always go out of their way to bash the Knicks....

Knicks will always be relevant as long as douche bags keep hatin on the Knicks. KEEP OUR TEAMS NAME OUT YOUR MOUTH!!!

Knicks just gotta continue to build. Keep getting winners that work hard on both ends with a lot of basketball skill....sign the same type of talent.

Look, Toronto won one more game than we did last season and they were very relevant. They were relevant because they paid Turkoglu more than Portland did. Players talk about winning and about where they want to live, but mostly they want money. Money is relevant.

I don't think it's such a big deal that people want to point out the obvious. It's just needless kicking us when we're down. We have some promising young talent and we're gonna have cap space. Even if we don't get a FA to sign in 2010, just the idea that we will be a more fiscally responsible franchise is gonna pay off down the line.

I don't feel the dread of not getting Lebron. I'm confident we'll get something done in 2010 or 2011 that will help this team. The thing that will help this team the most in 2010 is winning more this coming season, which I believe will happen. I think this team has a good chance to show improvement defensively. That's the area that this team needs more than anything. We know this team will score, but now having a couple of shot blockers should help to get a few more stops a game. If Douglas gets some minutes I think he helps off the bench to give us some defensive help up top.

We were so small last year and I think we lost a good number of games that we could've won with a bit more size and shot blocking in the middle. I think Darko is gonna be a nice addition. I know he hasn't done much so far, but I think he's gonna thrive in this system and as he gains confidence he's gonna be effective.

Change is coming, regardless of what the douchebags have to say about the Knicks. Just depends on those involved (i.e., players, coaches, front office). THe best thing we have going for us right now is that we have shed the losers (Tardbury, Layden, IT, etc.) and the biggest loser of all (JD) is more or less out of the picture.

Most players in the league probably know the Knicks are at the beginning of something positive (compared to the last decade) and for CERTAIN, Stern wants the Knicks to become relevant again. THe 90s were the last great era for the NBA, and they want it back as much as NYK fans want it.

I agree, doesn't matter about LBJ, what we need is a winning culture and solid players. However, I think the FAs next year will definitely consider NYK. Besides the marketing $$ and exposure, there's the fact tat NYC is one heckuva fun place to live if you have money.

sounds like the agent was Lee's! And he has an axe to grind!

Not a lot of teams have signed free agents, and not that many MLEs signed.

That is an obvious statement if you are an agent. The Knicks can't and won't spend money so why would an agent be interested in the Knicks.

yep and agents never exaggerate, lie, or have an agenda. I'd like to ask this agent just how "relevant" he thought the Celtics were prior to 2 off seasons ago. The NBA is not the NFL, you don't need a major rebuilding project. You pick up a star or 2 and boom your a contender. The right star(Garnett, LBJ etc..) and your a title contender. The key is getting under the cap at the right time, and thats what we are doing. This agent is a buffoon, you think he's not going to steer his client TO NY with all the extra endorsement money available??? yea he's going to steer his guy towards a team like Dallas or NO that is 2nd rd. fodder instead just because they have been more "relevant" the past 5 years. hahahahaha

We weren't winning no rings with those 2 anyway, Obviously they would have been. A welcome addition and would of givin us a some leadership. But let's face it both had valid reasons for not signing given there age..

You do realize that in the history of the NBA, only one NBA franchise has won a chip by signing a major free agent? The Lakers got Shaq because he wanted to try film and music and also had Kobe Bryant. The Knicks have no assets to get Kevin Garnett or Ray Allen in a trade. so this "boom [you're] a contender" logic is flawed at best
