Its not a good sign that they can get players in their prime. I'm tell you guys it doesn't take a genius to know that the Knicks will not get their targeted player come 2010. Kidd and Hill turning down the Knicks is a sign of things to come unless Donnie shows that he can sign a FA or trade for player that he plans on keeping for the future. So far he has failed to do just that get players for the future of the Knicks.

Don't get me wrong he is excellent at getting the Knicks in a position with the cap, but he has to be able to do more than make side ways trades that only have 2010 in mind. He has to be able to add to the team to make it more appealing to get a high profile FA. Donnie has to show a little more, so far he has shown a lot to set the Knicks with 2010 but has done little to get the necessary talent to gear the Knicks to attain the necessary 2010 FA.

There was never a better than 50% chance that we'd get a Superstar FA let alone two.

But shooting for the sun and failing at least guarantees you wind up among the stars.

We're going to be a better team with more flexibility to shape the future in 2010.

And in 2011 as well.

The plan is going according to plan.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

it tells you you better get cap space you can make much more attractive offers.

BTW, did you know that you have huge trade advantages if you're under the cap? The 2010 plan can help the team a lot even if we don't sign a big time FA.

I like the plan of getting under the cap. Matter of fact I love the idea. But I don't think the Knicks should be thinking about building based on the FA. They need to make good moves so as to attract a FA to join a team that is already competing on a high level. Kidd and Hill aren't going to be difference makers in the long run for the Knicks. The problem I'm having is that they aren't even able to sign players past their prime. That is why the Knicks can't think about LeBron and Wade. They are not coming here and the Knicks need to take a course of action that basically goes about like LeBron and Wade aren't coming.

On another note Donnie hasn't done enough to get the necessary talent to the KNicks that is of their choice every piece so far is a piece of compromise. Last year they targeted Westbrook in the draft and got Gallo, This year they targeted Rubio or curry and they walked away with Hill nice consolation prizes but certainly not what they were looking for all plan B pick ups. Donnie so far has a botched deal with Washington, and two FAs that turned him down. Guys this doesn't bode well for future signings or deals.

Except they didnt offer him a chance at a championship. I guess to Hill that's worth more.

BTW, up until this past season, Hill had made 126 million dollars in his career. I'm guessing the couple mill he left on the table for a chance to win a championship didn't mean much.

Much better chance with Nash and Amare than with the Knicks next year.

No, they offered him more money--not necessarily a better deal. A better deal would involve the ability to use your cap space to build a solid team around the player--something we can sell in 2010 but cannot now. You still seem to be ignoring the trade advantages.

I think Kidd took more money and stayed with a better team. I think Hill did not want to uproot his family to go to a losing situation. Moving sucks and if you add children it is worse. The only way either Kidd or Hill takes less money to move is if they are sure they will win a championship. The only way Grant Hill uproots his family to go to a losing situation and mentor young players to close out his career is for a boat load of money. The Knicks are not going to win for awhile and they cannot give any free agent a boat load of money in 09.

Papabear Says

I won't be paying my money going to games this season. I will wait till 2010 and then see what they got. No one beleives me when I say that around the players in the league the Knicks have a bad reputation and the elite players will use us to get a better deal with other team.

uhhh...the suns are better than the knicks. read what he said in the times article where he says why he stayed. it sounds to me like he feels that with gentry (hill says porter is cool, but he wasn't the right fit being too obsessed with defense and slowing it down...hmmmm) and no shaq (he says that trade for him hurt the team because shaq couldn't play that way) the suns can get back on track to the way they played under d'antoni.

the spurs are probably the only slow it down team, who they may have beaten in that infamous series they perhaps unfairly lost, so maybe they feel they could win it.

compare that to a team like the knicks who will be losers, and he even stated specifically that last season with the suns was ROUGH, because of the losing, so clearly he doesn't want to waste one year on a losing team for a maybe that they sign lebron or whoever, when he knows what's up with phx, with 2 superstars in amare and nash, plus another all-star caliber player in richardson.

^ yea, like, the Suns are obviously a better team with a better chance to win some serious gamez!! So, this is the reason Hill and Nash stayed (and Kidd in Dallas) and not so very much that the Knicks stink.
