I'm not sure on this one because of Kidd's age. If they offer him a 4th year with the money half guaranteed--that spices up the first three years and makes it more comparable to what Dallas likely offered. If the 4th year comes out around 6.4mm with the theory he is only playing 3 that increases the NY offer to over 7mm per and cuts down some of the gap in the other offer. An additional gesture that really has no effect on the Knicks. If the Knicks believe that Douglas can be a Tony Parker type PG then spending the extra $ to have Kidd here to also work with Douglas might be worth it. I don't know if CBA will allow the Knicks to try something like this?

It's a little unfair to include Douglas's name and future performance in determining Kidd's contract. The kid is going to be good for us imo, but Tony Parker comparisons seem a little far fetched right now.

no they can't because kidd is 36. there is a limit to contract length that is determined by the player's age.

pretty sure he'll stay in dallas for more money. also i think a big factor here will be that texas has no income tax and new york has major income tax. the difference in real $ value of the deals is probably something far bigger than it looks on paper. and i'm sure cuban has pointed that out. no way kidd leaves dallas.

RUMOR HAS IT…

In this week's section geared exclusively towards the latest rumors floating around the NBA …

Kidd Staying Put: An informed source has told HOOPSWORLD that Jason Kidd
intends to return to the Dallas Mavericks for a three-year, $24 million contract.

Kidd has indicated to the Mavericks and New York Knicks that he'll mull over their respective offers over the weekend. The Knicks are said to be offering Jason a guaranteed three years at the Mid-Level Exception (MLE) which works out to be approximately $18.1 million.

Barring a surprising change of events, Kidd is expected to notify the Dallas on Monday that he'll take their offer which starts at approximately $7.25 million for the upcoming season.

Please explain because that is age discrimination. There is nothing in the CBA that remotely supports this.
