Feel free to lock if there's already a thread that I missed.

"Because of his comfort level with his teammates and city, and of course, the chance to get an $8 million-$9 million contract, odds are that free agent Jason Kidd will re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks. Yet, he has an intrigue with the New York Knicks that is mutual, and a Knicks source says they plan to try and meet with him once free agency starts on July 1.

Kidd is considering possibilities with Portland and Cleveland, but he always loved New York a lot more than New Jersey. He built good relationships with Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni and Portland’s Nate McMillan when they were assistant coaches for Team USA.

Barring a sign-and-trade deal, the Knicks would be limited to offering Kidd the midlevel exception."

Kidd isn't coming unless Donnie maps out a plan and gets some serious confirmations from some players under the table. Kidd plays extreamly hard and well but the dude is a douche.

Yeah. Everyone wants to sign with the Knicks.

When your contract's up and you want to get more $$, say you'll sign with the Knicks. That was everyone else does.

TIME OUT.

A future hall of fame point guard that drops dimes by the dozen and understands salary cap considerations states unequivocally that he is interested in talking to the NY Knicks, with full knowledge that all the Knicks can offer is the mid-level exception and the reaction of the board is "no thank you?". I don't care if you hate Kidd, you not only listen... you make the offer. First, even if you hate Jason Kidd... trade him next year... he will have value... screw him. But I think you are nuts. If he wants to run this offense and show any young pg we draft the ropes in the NBA... sign me up. Two or three years at the MLE is a bargain. AND, it sets the tone for the 2010 FA class. Honestly. If someone is giving you a discount, make the most of the offer.

All this negative attitude is BS.

I don't know about Kidd. My guess is that he has tremendous pride and would not sign anywhere except maybe the Lakers for the MLE. If he is willing to sign for the MLE then the Knicks need to make the effort. My guess is that he stays in Dallas. The Mavs got burned bad in the trade that brought him there and he has something to prove. Kidd could be a huge boost for D's system and his leadership, work ethic and commitment to playing on both ends of the court would help the Knicks.

Its not negativity, duke is on his last legs man. Plus, Kidd hasnt been known as a team first, selfless player who will mentor a young point guard. That hasnt been his M.O. Exact opposite actually.

Kidd would want to come because he would be enamored with playing in the Garden. We get off to a 5-10 start, and that cat is going to start to raise hell. Thats guaranteed.

Kidd's done. He's shown as much in Dallas. He can't help us he just wants our money. He needs to coattail the Spurs for the LLE for 12-15 minutes a night off the bench. That's the best fit for him IMO.
