Spain's smart money says Ricky Rubio still will be in Europe come preseason 2009-10. His contract mess (being held as collateral for past club debts) is up to a judge to decide. A conciliatory meeting takes place June 23 before the adjudicator grants a court hearing sometime in the future, who knows when.

Who would have guessed that his contract is an issue. You mean they aren't just going to let him out of it? I'm stunned.

If he is there at 8 Knicks have to pounce on this guy and thank the lucky heavens, that they didn't have to take Jrue.

Isn't there a max amount that teams are allowed to pay to help a player get out of his contract?

remember drafting Sweetney and Lampe and thinking we had made off with two lotto picks? lol. life sucks.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

How long is his current contract? What if we select him, expect him in 2 years, only to see him get offered bigger money to stay overseas and he takes it?

Then we're screwed.

I'd be wary of this situation. We need a good player with this pick. Stephen Curry looks to be our best bet.

Are you talking about a Vujanic move. LOL, I remember Francesa assuring every Knick fan that everything was ok because his "people" said this guy plays like Nash and Kidd. By his people I think he meant Chad Ford.

Vujanic isn't convinced he's coming to the NBA next season. He's concerned about his role with the Knicks and how many minutes he'll get. I tell him that his only competition is Charlie Ward and Howard Eisley. He understands. But the kid loves to play so much, he's still wary. "I just want to make sure I'm getting a chance to play. If not, it's maybe better for me to stay here." A complete breakdown in scouting led to Vujanic slipping into the second round. Vujanic said his lack of a U.S. agent may have had something to do with his slip, but he's happy he ended up in New York. He played there in a tournament three years ago and fell in love with the city. His experience in the World Championships has really helped his progression. His confidence level rose tremendously after he more than handled Andre Miller and Baron Davis in Yugoslavia's win over Team USA. Now he's already pining for the chance to go one-on-one with Kidd. The Knicks may have screwed up a lot of things the last few years, but after watching Vujanic play, there's hope in New York. Combine him with a lottery pick like Darko Milicic and a healthy McDyess, and you have a completely re-energized team. - Chad Ford ESPN

I don't believe so. If I remember correctly under the CBA, international players are treated like underclassmen. Seniors are automatically assumed to be available for the draft. So any international player no matter how old they are have the same rules and priviledges as underclassmen including eligibility with the exception of the one year rule. Underclassmen withdrawal date has past. The only reason I know this is because of that wussy Tiago Splitter, who would constantly put his name in and take it out. ESPN would go into detail how he was able to do so again and again. If I recall correctly 07 was his his last year to put his name in the draft because it is limited, I could be wrong about that.
