But while Thomas has seen success in the international game, his primary goal was to make the Knicks' summer league team in July.

Grunwald, however, said that is unlikely.

"We have a couple players under contract right now and are likely to wind up with a guard in next week's draft," Grunwald said.

So moving up for Thabeet - out.

Being after Hill - also out.

I don't see Grunwald's comment as being smoke. I think it reflects accurately the thinking amongst management - they want the best PG they can get.

guys, just to play devils advocate (what a shock, huh?)

grunwald said "likely to end up with"...

that doesn't mean the other options listed are not happening, "out," or not possible still.

the reality is that there are also more good guards available than good big men that we need.

thabeet, hill, and mullens are guys that COULD fit, but just look at the number of players we've worked out, and team needs. most of them have been guards.

clearly a guard is more likely, as has been said before by walsh, i believe.

but to suggest there is no way the knicks are gonna take the other guys is a pretty grand leap.

I wouldn't have hated a Hill draft, but I had been wondering if all these Hill rumors were Donnie's way of a) letting teams know we're not DESPERATE to move up, giving a little more flexibility in trades, or b) reminding teams of what kind of players could still be available if they choose to trade down with us.

If we come out of this draft with Curry, do the fans finally cheer for a draft pick?

Only if they got used to the idea of drafting out of position players in the lottery who only think defense is something someone else likes to play on them. So yeah there's a great chance.

...and continuing to assist the Devil's helper- it could also mean that we take a non-PG at 8 and then get another pick later and snag one of the second tier PGs (Collison, anyone?).

I see smoke. Why would anyone tell the press which way their team was leaning? Personally I think all this means is that G2 is setting the table for a team under us who hopes a top guard is gonna fall to them.

We must disect every line, every statement, every rumor as if it is fact, apply emotional content to it, argue it, flame it.........

Then start all over again every 10 minutes.

I think we'll buy a pick to get a scoring 2 guard late. There's a lot of decent options at the top of the 2nd round. In the first round we are either getting a point or a Big

i think we should apply the augusten burroughs method. the answer is clearly in donnie walsh's toilet. Who’s going to volunteer to read the “tea leaves?”

I think it is obvious we covet a guard yet if the time comes to pick and a forward is a superior player to any guard available? You bet we're picking that forward and then worrying about any potential logjam, also known as trade assets, down the road.

what rumor? We have a statement that comes from Grunwald as concerns possibly giving a spot on the summer league roster to a guard. I don't see smoke. I see an off hand comment that reflects on their draft strategy.

Derozan at 8 and a purchased pick for a PG late would be pretty nice. We have to remember that Duhon is good, he's just not good at 40 minutes a night.

What happened to the Darko rumors? Haven't heard much about that lately.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

i doubt Derozan falls to us... i think if taking a PG late is in their plans, we'll end up taking Jordan Hill... that will provide replacements for both Lee & Nate should they end up going someplace else next season via free agency... would love to end up w/Derozan but i think if we aren't trading up for Rubio then we're either taking Curry or Hill & nabbing a PG w/another pick later in the round.

I think mike d knows a pg is the most important aspectin his system, the only way hill or anyone gets pick otherwise, is if any of the top 3 pg's are gone.

Flynn might make the most sense depending who is left on the board. He certainly could come in and contribute right away. I wish the Knicks as a franchise were more open minded about the draft and assessed available players instead of targeted players/positions.
